Woke up to the dreary wet morning we had been promised. Actually woken up to the sound of quite heavy rain in the night and discovered in the morning that some had rained in through the window we had left slightly open. Never mind, the sofa will dry and not complaining about a bit of rain. We have been incredibly lucky this trip and stayed remarkably dry. We hitched Smart Arse to the back of Welcome and set off to Fishbourne for the 12 o clock ferry. Bob managed once again to squeeze through the dreadfully narrow lanes where the overgrown hedges on either side scrape along both the sides of the van and make a frighteningly scratchy noise. I have difficulty advising anyone to use this campsite with such an awful approach road. Even scarier ... read more

Travelling with public transport in United Kingdom is hard work. Indeed, I had explored trains, buses, hired cars and tour operators to visit Durdle Door (The 'only' natural heritage of England) from Hayes Town but all were hopelessly costly, time consuming and not worth the penny.Hence, when a hiker at Little Britain Lake, Iver said she was planning to travel to Durdle Door, I accepted the offer to jump in and split the costs. I completed the 8 miles (return walk) and rushed to ASDA to get some sandwich fillings and prepared a picnic to compensate for the lack of refreshments at Durdle Door. It was a restless night, waking up on top of every hour since 4am with no confidence on my alarm clock. We started at 7:30 am from Stockley Park ( Hayes and ... read more

Bournemouth Blues -Piprey on wheels Heatwave in England has become an annual event and the ideal time to hit the beaches. I booked advance tickets (Price 50 GBP for a return via Reading while in 2005 it was 18 GBP via London). At Hayes and Harlington station, I carried the cycle over all the stairs when an old English woman remarked that she hoped to see the lift in next 10 years. I had a laugh and nodded with hope :) Arriving at interchange, Reading, I boarded the train. In the cycle compartment, I lifted the front wheel into the hook up in the air and kept it suspended. Next year, I shall definitely qualify for Olympic weight lifting championship. The cross country train travelled via Southampton to Bournemouth. It was old train compared to Great ... read more

August 13, 2019 Weymouth, England Never heard of Weymouth, England? You’re not alone! England’s BEST. KEPT. SECRET! We weren’t able to dock until 11am, so we had a leisurely morning. Typical breakfast in the grand dining room (with Milica) an espresso at Barista’s with Gaia. While in the dining room the Pilot came on board (aft…we didn’t have the same front row seat this time); we went up to Barista’s and watched the Pilot guide us through the first man made harbor in the UK. The wall is deceptive as there are two main “entrances” – one…which we thought we’d enter because it looked larger and the other “larger” one. The first one is actually angled, so a large ship would have a difficult time. We both thought the ship was going to ram the wall, ... read more

Just to confuse you, this blog is being started three days after our journey started, as it's only now that it occurred to me that we could do this, and that after re-living some of the more humorous moments of the Spurin's blogs with them whilst staying at their house in Boscombe. But I am getting ahead of myself. We set off on this family holiday which will coincide with Anna's 18th birthday on the hottest day of the year. In fact, if you believe the news reports, it was supposed to be the hottest day ever recorded in Britain! It certainly felt like it, and we were very thankful that our car has air conditioning. Even Anna, who normally grumbles when I turn it on, demanded that it be switched back on after only a ... read more

Friday 14th We were visiting Christchurch for the Flowerfest and arrived in good time for the Mary Poppins inspired Flower arranging demonstration with afternoon tea at the Captain's Club hotel. The hotel overlooked the river and the little ferry boat was decorated with flowers at it ferried passengers to Chrustchurch Quay. Time for a drink before the ofher guests started to arrive, The doors opened at 3pm and a warm welcome was given as we were directed to our table, the beautiful circular tables looked wonderful with bottles of clear, blue & pink bottles/co trainers filled with amazing flowers & embellished with Mary Poppins deign ribbons. We were served with a choice of tea or coffee and each guest had a delicious 3 tiered stand containing finger sandwiches, savouries, scones and cake delights including a nod ... read more

We set off early to make the most out of our daytrip to Dorset. We get down to Durdle Door in good time, arriving at around 9:15am. We actually got down a little earlier than expected as luckily the roads were clear. I've been to Durdle Door many times, but never this early. It is actually worth getting down at this time as there are hardly any people around and given it is an Easter weekend with good weather you know it will get packed here later on. It is Jovie's first time ever seeing the sea, so whilst we are parked up overlooking the coast I hold her up so she can see the sea, as she probably wont see it when we are walking around with her in the baby carrier. Durdle Door is ... read more

So where to next? Didn't fancy any more narrow roads, A roads or not, if we headed West things would only get trickier. South it was then and Lyme Regis seemed a nice place to go spend a few days... Hmmm. We pulled in to LR early evening and was chuffed to see that the two main car parks had designated Motorhome spaces, hmm well they were if you’re a Euro Box. We stuck out about eight feet so they were no good for us. Being considerate RV types, we found a spot in the Cliff Top Car Park and tucked ourselves away in the corner where we didn't bother anyone, not that there was anyone to bother, the place was empty. We were on a bit of a slope but that didn't bother us, time ... read more

Leaving behind the beauty of Lulworth Cove we keep heading west towards Cornwall and stop in the seaside town of Lyme Regis. The town is your typical seaside town, it even has the buntings zig zagging the high street! We first strolled down to the seafront which was mostly a rock plateau. We followed the foot path along the waters edge until we reached the start of the high street and the pebbled beach. The town is pleasant and has many bakeries, ice cream parlours, pubs and gift shops, its what you expect from a British seaside resort town. We looped our away around the quaint back streets, one of which was very pretty with a little stream running parallel to the lane we walked up. Eventually our wanderings brought us back to our motor home ... read more

My memories of Durdle Door and Lulworth cove were vivid and for some reason I had it fixed in my head that both had sandy beaches, how wrong was I. We took the steep path down to Durdle Door enjoying the impressive scenery as we went. Eventually when we reached the beach we found the entire beach to be pebbles. It was quite a painful walk across the pebbles, had we known we would have brought our water shoes. We found a spot to park ourselves and gingerly walked across the stones down to the water, it was cold but crystal clear, certainly not for swimming although it didn't stop some hard core punters taking a dip. We sat for a while on the beach, surprisingly for mid week and June it was quite busy. Around ... read more
