After our trip to Paris we went down to Kington Magna near Gillingham to visit friends for the day. We went via Stonehenge which the mob were disappointed with as they thought it looked a lot bigger in photos. The narrow lanes with high hedges around Kington Magna fascinated them as they worried how two vehicles could pass each other. They loved the 17th century cottages which have been renovated but kept all their period charm. The 14th century church on the top of the hill behind the village set the stage for a lovely day in the english countryside & we were lucky the weather was kind. The aussie mob were blown away by all the memorabilia our friends have accumulated over the years & how it all blends in with the low ceilings & flagstone floors inside. After a great lunch we were off to overnight at Warminster which is a town from mediaeval times which also has a history dating from early saxon times & some heritage listed sites. In more modern times there's a large defense force presence. We stayed at a very nice hotel ( Hall Park Hotel) where the owners cooked a lovely roast with yorkshire puddings for the mob as some of them had never tasted yorkshire puds!!! The hotel also had a very cosy bar which we well used. The rooms were quite large & well furnished & the water was hot with good pressure which we had not found in some of our accomodation around UK. The next day we headed back to South Ockendon to wrap up our UK trip & prepare for the first leg of our trip back to Oz via a few days in Kuala Lumpur.
