Dear blog fans,
The time has come to write our final blog and fill you all in on the last part of our adventure!
You will be pleased to know we got back to the UK safely on a very long 14 hour flight!
Since our last blog we spent the final week of our trip in Koh Tao and Bangkok. Unfortunately whilst we were in Koh Tao it rained and was overcast for the duration of our stay. However we made the most of our time and took advantage of the low prices in Thailand so Simon decided to have a Thai Massage. Simon can safely say it did not feel relaxing one bit and felt that that every bone in his body was clicked but at least he was brave enough to try it unlike Abi!! Koh Tao seemed like a nice relaxed island which would have been lovely had the sun have come out!
From Koh Tao it was a long all day boat and bus journey to get to Bangkok. Whilst in Bangkok we stayed very close to Khao San road.
On our first day we went to the Grand palace, home of the Emerald
Buddha. The palace grounds were amazing and we have never seen buildings decorated in so much gold and detailed mosaic tiles before. On that day we also went to see the massive 46m long gold reclining Buddha.
Whilst in Bangkok we saw numerous different Buddha's of all shapes and forms and by the end we were Buddha'd out! Another one worth a mention was the Golden Buddha, which was made purely out of Gold (3.5 tonnes of it!!)
Apart from Buddha's the temples we also saw were amazing and we enjoyed people watching and learning about their different culture.
We enjoyed a couple of rides on the Tuk Tuk's, which were fun if a little hair raising especially on the sharp bends! We also went to the Chata Chak market, which was huge (15,000 stalls) That kept us entertained for a while and we both managed to barter some good bargains, which was fun.
We also ended up (persuaded by another couple we had met!) going to a 'Ladyboy' cabaret. We can safely say it was not our thing but still very amusing and we were impressed at how lady like they looked!!
We really enjoyed the
Thai food, loads of great curries and noodle dishes and great banana pancakes, which Simon could not get enough of!!
Bangkok was a very enjoyable final stop and we were sad to be leaving as we knew this journey would soon be over and the adventures were coming to an end.
We were nearly kept in Thailand though as when we went through customs we were told we had to pay a fine for overstaying our visa for 4 days or we would be unable to fly. It was a real pain as we were told when we crossed into Thailand that the date stamped in our passports would be extended as you get longer if you fly out of Thailand. Unfortunately though this was not correct and so we had to pay the fine. Getting a Thai police fine receipt as our final souvenir was a slight consellation!!!
When we arrived back into the UK, we had a real shock to the system and even though apparently it has warmed up here recently we have been struggling to get used to the cold. It has been lovely seeing our families and we are looking forward to catching
Pancake Man!!
AKA SImon's best friend!! up with people over the next few weeks. Our job hunts have already began and so I guess we are back to reality now!
We are both so glad we did the trip and have had the most amazing 4 months. It is sad it is now over but we definitely have the travelling bug so hope to see some more of the world at a later date once we have saved enough money!
Thank you again to all those who helped us have the memorable trip we had and we hope to keep in touch with the new friends we made along the way!
You'll be pleased to know you will have no more boring blogs to read from us.... until next time!!!
Lots of Love From
Abi and Simon xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
