As most of you know I, along with my Dad, am about to embark on my next holiday adventure. This time my travels are taking me back to South America to visit Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. I shall be away for 22 days flying into Quito, capital city of Ecuador (and the second highest city in the world) via Madrid. The highlights of the trip will include Quito, Otavalo and Saquisili, the volanic peaks of Cotopaxi, Chimborazo and Tungurahua, the Amazon Jungle, Devils Nose railway and of course 7 nights sailing and visiting some of the Galapagos Islands. We will be travelling via plane, coach, motorised canoe, train and motor cruiser staying in hotels, jungle camp, hosteria and boat! Hopefully, I will be able to update my blog as we go along if internet access ... read more

We got destroyed. It was not an ideal quiz for a non-geezer a.k.a foreigner. They did have sandwiches afterwards so it wasn’t a complete waste of time. The following day we drove to Matlock and had a look around. It is a pretty township that attracts many a tourist. It is also where the Derbyshire records office can be found. ... read more

My original plan was to try to make it to Ireland for a quickie tour. However, a poor weather forecast and the airline losing my luggage forced me to drop back and punt. Instead, I decided to focus on three National Parks in the north of England. The Peak District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors National Parks. Starting out from Nottingham, I headed to Matlock Bath on the southern edge of the Peak District. Matlock Bath has been a tourist site since warm springs were discovered there. Nowadays, it’s a major Sunday biking destination seeing close to 1000 bikers on summer weekends. I secured a room at a bed & breakfast for the night. ... read more
