Dearest all,
Took the fast train (Eurostar) from Brussels to London, it only took us 2 hours i think
we realized once on the train that we had no map and no idea about where the hostel we had booked online was
or even what the name of it for that matter.. just a street name
Katie asked for directions from these American sounding people that were also on the train
hoping they too were tourists and had a map we could look at
turns out they worked in london so they gave us directions to the nearest 'tube' station
we ended up wandering around with our packs.. on the right street but couldn't find the right building number
so we stopped into a bar to ask if they knew the place and turns out the hostel was right above it
the hostel itself was kinda sketchy but we met such great people!
They laughed at us and said that they saw us walking by
After getting settled in we joined everybody down stairs and ordered a beer 😊
We then spent the rest of the night chatting and drinking and making fun of each others accents (more aussies there than brits)
The next day we took a train to go see stonehenge
was good to see, even though it was very overpriced.. well the stupid tour bus we went on anyways
took loads of pictures which we will try and post
later on that evening we took an unofficial walking tour of the city with Liam
a british guy we met at the hostel
We contacted the O'Briens and decided on a meeting place for the fallowing day
Liam assured us he knew where it was and would give us directions........
we knew we were to meet at a station called St P_____ something.. at 1030
needless to say we were at the wrong station and made Katie O'Brein wait for 2 hours before figuring it all out
we then ate lunch on the stairs of St. Paul's cathedral- like in Mary Poppins (feed the birds)
followed by a ride on the London eye, which we incorrectly call the big ferris wheel oops...
and then to see the guards outside Buckingham palace
we took the train to Derby later that night
Jackie made us an amazing stir fry
it was soo good to have some real food again
the O'Briens have been outstanding!
the hospitality and generosity is almost more then we can handle
it was great to sleep in a real bed have a nice hot shower today and do some laundry finally
today we hung out with Katie and her friends, had a french fry sandwich, actually called a chip buttie
at a cute little fish and chips place
we even went bowling
same as bowling in Canada but the "blimey", "bloody hell" and "tosser" being yelled made it way more enjoyable
so were at their place now and had some dinner and are going out to a nice little english pub tonight
tomorrow our plan is to take the boat to Dublin
so until then..
Cheers!
