After 11 days in Penzance, I headed back east for a night in the University town of Plymouth on the south coast just east of Cornwall. The University has a big sustainable building program including a new masters degree in sustainable construction, and I'd arranged to meet and chat with the program director. Coincidentally, they were celebrating the 10th anniversary of the program that night with some talks (and a great buffet!) which we later attended. It was good hearing about the program and listening to the lectures, but the MSc degree didn't quite feel like the best fit for me, focusing more on construction theory than I'm interested in. Maybe it is for the best as Plymouth didn't feel like the most inspiring place to be. However I think the director is a good contact ... read more

We arrived at Newquay about 1pm and drove out to Pentire Point East, where we went for a walk along the peninsula. The rugged rocks were making a white swirling mess of the clean waves coming in to shore. A some what similar notion appeared to be happening between the wind and my hair. We drove into the town centre for a walk around, and saw a sign for a backpackers on the other side of the bay. We walked over to Belushi’s and booked ourselves into their accommodation, “St Christopher’s backpackers”. We scored a bunk room to ourselves with own adjoining bathroom, and a large window that over looked the length of Newquay Bay. We sat outside on the picnic tables and had lunch at the pub looking down upon the bay from our cliff-top ... read more

Last Friday I went over to my mate Wayne’s house, where Emily and I spent a couple of hours chilling out. I had a go on Wayne’s brand new toy - his HARLEY!!! It was so much fun, I now wanna learn to ride a bike and maybe even get my own one!!!!!!! Spent the weekend at the flat veggin in front of the TV, watched some DVDs and went round town. I decided to get my hair cut - it is now a bob, bit shorter than before. Went to Witham Sat night and hung out with the PADI diving lot, was really nice to catch up! Otherwise v dull weekend really! Monday was at work, read through a load of info about the Lottery grant we want to apply to - FUN!!! Tuesday my ... read more

What better to do on a long bank weekend than visit the aids capital of the UK! The forecast for rainy rain was thankfully a bit wrong- even got sunburnt, summer not over yet! Took a long bus ride there (about 8 hours), stayed in a hostel above belushi's, had a great view over the water- made seeing sunrise easy and complusary considering we had no curtains. Spent the first day just hanging round in newquay, went for a walk around, looked at the shops, ate some yum as clotted cream fudge, soooo good. Went out for drinks, and got a pastie on the way home, got a small one- small being about the size of a chihuahua. Came back with a giant dough-boy in my stomach to find that the hostel had no water, and ... read more

Wow I can't beleive I've been back for nearly 2 months. It feels like I haven't been home for 6 months. Staight back into the humdrum life of work and now study. I've returned to study at Kingston University which at the moment I'm wondering if it was one of my brightest decissions due to the amount of work I've got to do. Oh well I know that lovely peice of paper at the end will pay off. Over the Easter long weekend 3 of my friends and I decided to do a road trip to Newquay which is in Cornwall on the south-west coast of England. It's reputation was that it is the best surf beach in England and a really good place to go and party for the young. We soon discovered that 'young' ... read more

After six months of the freezing winter, and in my whitest state ever, I was totally keen for the beach .............so a boys weekend to Newquay at the South West of England was the call ...... ....... I must admit I was a little ambitious thinking that it would be sunny and warm but we still hit it and was so good to get to the beach. Anyways, our travel and accomodation came in the form of Paul and Daves massive Ford transit..........A few matresses in the back and our accom was sorted........That turned out to be a great move as our 5 hour journey turned into nearly 24 hours. A few dodgy electrical problems got us, and while we used our Kiwi know-how to keep the transit going, we couldnt avoid the phone call to ... read more

Easter was fast approaching and I had no plans. So at the last minute I decided to go to Cornwall for four days. London is a great city but you go crazy if you don't get out now and then. And I needed to smell the sea.... read more

King Arthur's Birthplace Re-enactment on the hill. Acting needs some work! Not a very big night out last night. 95% of us were in bed by midnight. Only about a dozen of us made it out last night. As all group dynamics go, especially when we don't really know one another all that well, it took forever to make a decision on where to go. It was narrowed down to the Walkabout or Belushi's which is at our hostel. Some didn't want to pay the £3 cover charge at the Walkabout but Sarah really wanted to go for a taste of Australia. Apparently Walkabout is a typical Aussie bar AND being Tuesday the theme is Beach night. Plus rumour has it that wet t-shirt contests, stripping and games like that are quite popular. If you knew ... read more

Going to Land's End Looking for some stacked stones Are we there yet Cai? Morning start at 8:30 seems a bit late to me now but at least I can take my time getting ready in the morning. One good thing about this hostel is that they always provide breakfast. I have my fruit packed from the other day which will be great for snacking on and will ensure I'm not always eating "bad for you" foods. :) I have been hanging out with Sarah lots the past 24 hours. We were actually on the same bus coming down from Edinburgh but knowing it was only two days, one night the bus was pretty anti-social in my opinion. Anyway, since yesterday Sarah has invited me to do stuff with her while I'm in London which is ... read more

Big stones at Stonehenge Homity pie is yummy Big break in Launceton. Wow, less than 12 hours in my hostel here in London and I’m back at the Haggis office ready to take off on another four day/three night tour of Cornwall. I should have just slept on the sidewalk last night so as to save £15. haha We will see stuff like Newquay, Land’s End, Stonehenge and Bath again. It should be good…or at least that is what I’m hoping for in any case! I’m excited about this coming weekend when I’ll get the chance to see Robyn again. Robyn and I met back in India so it’ll be cool to see one another again. Robyn was actually in London the exact day that I left London to head north to Scotland. Doh! What timing. ... read more
