Ahhh all the fun of plastic blocks! For the kids birthdays we trekked back to London Town to see Ange and Cam and for a spot of legoland with our good buddies Benning, Danielle and Curtis. Legoland is very cool, though we inadvertantly went on the last day it was open for the year AND the last day of english half term holidays, so crowds were cra-zy. But check out the pics, most impressive is all the stuff they make out of lego, I mean you can't go wrong with busts of darth vader, mount rushmore, the boy band Blue (I know we couldn't figure out the criteria for being immortalised in lego either), and mini european lego cities complete with tourist gimmicks like london eye and buckingham palace.... read more

September 27, 2006 Nice day trip to Windsor today. The age of Windsor Castle was more grand than its exterior, but the history was quite impressive. Hundreds of years of royal history behind the stone walls of this castle - whew! My favorite room was the Great Hall. The ceiling has the shields of hundreds of coat of arms from royalty around the world. Walking around in a hall that so many royals have for hundreds of years really was amazing. Saw the Queen Mum's tomb as well as many others in the chapel. The town of Windsor is so cute! I love it! We headed back on the train and then spent 1.5 hours at Leicester Square for the movie premiere of "Click." Saw Adam Sandler, David Hasselhoff, and Kate Beckinsale. We then walked through ... read more

Well the last two days have been fun .... I now have my visa, medical and flight tickets .... plus a double dose of more shots than I care to think about ... Doctors advise is to stay away from dogs and cats while out there and not even let them lick me ... (I am sure some of you will have a comment on that one!) Well the Porsche is now in storage .. and I am running around in a Astra for a few days. It's blue, has a button on the dash that says sport, but alas when you press it all that happens is a light comes on and nothing else ... Started to pack last night before the draw of the bar took over again ... It is amazing how I ... read more

Monday 3rd September Emma found a flat for us to stay in, in St John's Wood, in the borough of Camden. She spoke to Laura her new boss who said it would be about a month before we could move up to Cambridge, so this will only be a short term thing. Its a one bedroom studio flat and will set us back a hefty £225/week, but there's not much choice as far as short term leases go, and Cam and Nat had already told a new couple they could move in on the weekend. Thursday 6th September At lunchtime I literally ran off (and tubed it) across to the Borough Markets, which are just south of Tower Bridge and a few miles away from work. Jamie Oliver (the Naked Chef) was going to be there ... read more

After a week of pretty dreary weather, we were a bit worried about our plan to head out to Windsor for the Cartier International Polo Day - but luck was on our side as the day was due to clear up after a fairly ordinary morning. We even managed to get a bit of colour as the sun shone down upon us for the afternoon. The trek out to the Polo was a bit of a mission - packed train trip out to Windsor and then the fun of fighting for the few cabs that were operating. But after a good hour of trying to track a cab down we were on our way the the Gaurds Polo Club. Turns out there were races on at Ascot as well (which is down the road). While you ... read more

Conference presentation was this morning ("Structure and recognition of graphs with no 6-wheel subdivision", if you're curious!) - then had some free time in the afternoon, since the conference programme only went until lunchtime today. We walked down to Earley station (Earley is a suburb in Reading, and the closest station to where we're staying) and got a train to Windsor and Eton Central... quite an expedition, since buying a ticket to a particular station does not in fact tell you how to get there... (2 changes, 2 different train companies, 3 different lines) Anyway, it was worth the adventure: Windsor is a beautiful little town, with lots of little shops hidden down alleyways, and a huge castle in the middle. (Didn't go in - we got there pretty late and it closes at 4pm, also ... read more

Adam, Jo and I took a day trip out to Windsor. Our first stop was the Windsor Castle, we arrived just in time to see the changing of the guards. Windsor Castle is approximately 1000 years old, is the largest inhabited castle in the world and one of the principal official residences of the British monarch. The Queen was at the castle on the weekend I was there for her birthday celebrations, unfortunately this meant that the state rooms were closed so we didn't get a chance to see these. A highlight for me was St George's Chapel where most Kings and Queens since George III have been buried; I saw the tombstone of the Queen Mother. After a few hours exploring the castle we had a walk around the town of Windsor and then ... read more

Alrighty, time for a wee update. So I finally met up with the girls and tomorrow we are on our way to Paris!! I can't believe it. So excited and a titch nervous. I've spent the last little while in Sandwich visiting family. The girls met me there 3 days ago and we spent our time relaxing and exploring the nearby city of Canterbury. It was sooo amazing to walk around the cathedral there and explore something that dates back to the 1100s. Unfortunately, it was (is) easter weekend so everyone is on a break and I swear they all decided that Canterbury was the place to be. Totally worth the crowds though. The three of us had a proper Cream Tea outside in this little cafe. While it was a little cold it was an ... read more
