Well, more or less. It's taken 6 weeks, but I'm finally feeling human again, ie not exhausted at 10 pm every night. Work is beginning to make sense - about time, really. The complete lack of blogs (or communication, for that matter) is entirely due to this imposition on my time and energy, motivated by my compulsive greed. I joke - if I were motivated by greed, I would be doing umm... something where I can make lots of money. Like charge for this blog. Ahem. That's me for now - I want more music! Mon is well - she has initiated the purchase of the computer upon which I type this dross, and we are looking for a car. The things we need... Like wireless internet, and cars, and a whole bunch of other stuff ... read more

As a thank you for our work this summer Jeff took as to the Winsdor horse races. We had betting vouchers and I somehow won about $100.00! Of course this was solely by liking the names of the horses. My last event at TASIS for the summer and I head off for Scotland and Switzerland! ... read more

... since I wrote anything, so here is an entry off the cuff. I am working, and as you know learning a new job is tiring and quite sucky. So my last few weeks have been tiring and sucky. Meanwhile, Mon has no job - I have money but no time, and Mon has time but no money, except that she could choose to spend my money if she so desired. I had a few weeks in Glasgow, punctuated by a quick visit to Edinburgh. It's quite a long time ago now though, and it's late, so I'm failing to summon up the enthusiasm that is surely required for any tale about Edinburgh. Meanwhile, Trinny and Susannah are extolling the virtues of the UK bum. It is a truly British thing, it seems, revel in one's ... read more

All week the weather report has been for thunderstorms on Sunday. A mixed blessing. On the one hand, something needs to break the heat. On the other hand, six of us had plans to travel out to Windsor to watch the polo match. As so often happens, the BBC got it wrong and we woke up to sunshine and the continuing heat. At least we didn't have to watch the matches in the rain. At 9.00, we all piled into a taxi and made our way out to Windsor Great Park and the polo ground, learning the rules of the game along the way. It was a gorgeous day to be outside, if broiling hot. The one comment that everyone we met all day made was about the heat. Interestingly, although there were booths selling every ... read more

The Royal County of Berkshire, widely known as Berkshire, is my residential county here in Britain. The county is called Royal because of the presence of Windsor Castle, one of Queen Elizabeth's residences. In the coming months, I will take photos of and make blogs about different places and towns in Berkshire which will show the diversity and beauty of this historic county. On my first excursion of course I went to the very heart of the shire, Windsor Castle. I only had time for a small walk around the castle so here is a taster of my adventures in Berkshire.... read more

It's a drizzly Sunday morning. The past few days have been nice and sunny, which has gasted our flabbers. Our main activity recently has been catching up with Kiwis - how are we supposed to get homesick?! Still, it's good fun - Luke and Paul came last week for some drinks and croquet, then Mum and Dad left on Sunday, we chatted with Gareth and Nicola on the banks of the Thames, dossed at Andrew and Kirstie's then had dinner with Beren and Angela in Aylesbury. If you don't know any of these people, it's ok - we do, and that's what matters. It's great to have friends around! Job-hunting is finally bearning its ambiguous fruit - we like money but not work. Mon is at the second interview stage with Ricoh, the photocopier people. I ... read more

Today was a trip to Windsor castle, the last of our stops around England. I'd been to Windsor nine years ago, and as soon as I got onsite the memories all came wafting back in. I was dissapointed that you could not take pictures everywhere. St. George's Cathedral in particular. This cathedral is extremely detailed, and is worth checking out. There are some kings and queens burried there, with fantastic tombs. There is a regular church service, and the guides are more then willing to give you any information you request. The changing of the gaurd ceremony takes place every day at 11am, just outside the church...show up early if you want the better view! It was a nice ceremony, with a full brass band. They played the Indiana Jones theme when I was there. Just ... read more

Aah, it's a time-honoured topic for those of you who have already had the misfortune of visiting this monolith of doom, and no doubt many people have done a hit-job on this airport much better than I'm about to, but here's to a good rave: I hate Heathrow. In no particular order, the traffic to get there is always horrible unless you're picking someone up at 5 am, when the lack of vehicles is mitigated by the shocking hour. I've driven there twice in the last two days, and it has sapped me of the will to live. The entrance to get there is criminally designed to make people disoriented and angry, not necessarily in that order: there are 5 terminals, all reached in the most haphazard manner possible. Our particular tormentor was terminal 3, an ... read more

I've just realised that the reason I couldn't find any pictures for the last blog was because we forgot our camera that day, like the good tourists we are. Never mind. Our second visit involved more dance, but we had more around the fringes - we bludged off a cuzzie, just like real kiwis! He made lunch, including an amazing salad. We hung about chatting, watched some football and then rushed off to the Sadler's Wells again. This time we only just made it, and poor Mon had to run in heels! She done good. I had a fairly exciting mid-week - I went to my first ever conference! It's exhausting but hugely interesting! The theme was the future of fair trade - big supermarkets are putting a lot of development money into it, because it's ... read more

It's been a while between drinks, and of course I have no excuse at all. 2 weeks in fact! What's going on? Well, we've been to London 2 or 3 times, and finally got some decent weather in town. Lodon is lovely - it's really great not to feel unsafe, but it is very busy, which us provincial bumpkins find quite tiring. So what then? Well, if you're short on time, this is the short version: jobhunt, eat, sleep. If, however, you're at work, procrastinating or both, read on. The London visits are of course the obvious starting point. A sunny Monday saw us cruise into Waterloo and decide to go all the way to Notting Hill Gate to check out the Portobello markets. Mon, of course, bought some footwear. It's a cool street full of ... read more
