It's 'Adventure Time' again! Perhaps not as epic as the seven weeks in the Antipodes earlier this year, but epic nevertheless. Those who know me well, will be aware that since I left the world of banking nine years ago, I have developed (along with five other fellow 'crazy people') a passion for long distance walking. This started four years ago, when we tackled the legendary, 200 mile, 'Coast to Coast' trek from the West Coast location of St. Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood's Bay in North Yorkshire, on the East Coast. Since then, we have successfully completed two other hikes of around 100 miles in the North of England, including the Dales Way last year, from Ilkley to Bowness on Windemere. But, my friends, this year is a little different. This year our merry ... read more

Now folks, there are 'adventures' and 'adventures' and this one will really be a truly serious and epic adventure! The Kilby's and the Horans (that is, Paul & Mandy and Tim & Sue) are finally getting round to their long promised trip to the other side of the world, a seven week 'holiday of a lifetime' to the land of Kiwis and Kangaroos; the Byrds were '8 Miles High' the Proclaimers did '500 Miles',and country music star Dwight Yoakham was even 'A Thousand Miles from Nowhere', but these all pale into insignificance compared to The Kilboran's Great Antipodean Adventure, covering over 28,000 miles from start to finish, at an average of 4,000 miles a week and equivalent to one and a bit times the distance around the planet! I wonder just how many steps that is ... read more

Feeling lazy, I lounged on the settee. BBC Breakfast News was on a roll. Endless items of bad news. Same old. Same old. But then something different. A woman talking about living rent-free in London. I roused myself. Pricked up my ears. And that's how I heard about TrustedHousesitters.com. It seemed tailor-made for us and our nomadic lifestyle. We had to give it a go. It's a great thing to be trusted. It feels like a gift. All it took was an e-mail and a phone call - 'I just wanted to hear your voice' - and we'd got our first assignment. The tiny village of Flitton, in Bedfordshire was far from any bright lights, but we wanted to see hidden corners of England, live for a short while in tucked away places, and meld in ... read more

Lotty's version of events:- After a hugely emotional goodbye with family, friends, dogs and the horse, Mum proved that it was not her but kerry that was the cold hearted ice queen! (love you Kez). We are currently sat in Luton airport exec lounge. Of our whole journey Planty is dreading the next few hours the most as on his planet a Ryan air flight is much worse than Moroccan transport or Indian accomodation..... we shall see! As the last few months have been so hectic, we plan on spending the next few days sitting by the pool and doing nothing! Planty has already been confused for Spanish and we have not even left the UK yet, and they tested our kindle for bomb chemical residues.... obviously he's shifty looking but just wait until he has ... read more

Hi Guys! Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas Whilst most of this actually happened back in England, for continuity purposes I will tell you anyway! So I will begin where I left off - Preparations for Christmas. I bought German pressies for my family, with Dad getting a Cuckoo clock shaped bauble, and Mum getting a Bremen calendar. I went to the Tourism Christmas Party - and ended up being the only non-German, partying with the Germans from all the different years - even they didn't know each other....The next day was the Erasmus Christmas Party, the party I was supposed to go to! However, as this is Germany, there's non stop work, so I had lectures all day over the last weekend before Christmas - they sure know how to have fun! We then ... read more

Hi Guys! So as most of you know, I am moving to Germany for the year to study. I will be posting notes like this throughout the year, and even though I haven't left yet (and still have a month here!) I already have some info, so I have started now. I have finally sorted out my course, my accommodation and now my flights! I am leaving on 22nd September and living in Bremen. If you want to see my address, it will be: Georg-Droste-Straße 5 28201 Bremen When I have more exciting information and pictures and stuff I shall let you know! Kevin.... read more

Arrived back from Sofia yesterday with out delays unlike the way out.. mum met us at the airport and looked after us for the day, leaving Paul at the airport and the next time he sees us and the car we will be at Berlin airport to meet him! Not really a very interesting travel story... more like home even though I haven't lived there for 20 years! seems impossible to believe but Houghton Regis will always be home.. Tonight we are staying in Ramsgate to be close to the ferry port and to save the amount of driving in one day.... read more
