Breakfast was an interesting affair to say the least. We sat down to a glass of juice and a yoghurt. Next we were both given a salad of shredded carrot and cheese mixed with a lot of mayonnaise. The bread was our best yet with a texture not unlike wood, this was accompanied by some meat stuff. Our final part of breakfast was quite difficult to describe but I'll give it a go. It looked like a mound of cottage cheese with raisins in but we suspected it may have been curd. We aren't entirely what it was but it was nasty. It sat in a pool of sweet water and was lukewarm. It had the consistency of rubber pellets and was impossible to swallow. I went through and picked out the raisins, but Rob left all of his.
We'd read in the guidebook that the panorama was worth visiting so we set out to climb it in approx 26°C. On the way up we found a beautiful kitten that came running when we called it. We spent quite a while stroking and playing with the kitten. When we did get up to the panorama it had scaffolding up (as
always seems to be the case) and there wasn't a view to be seen. We spent a while watching some water boatmen in a fountain and then decided to head back down. On the way we 'just happened' to stumble across the kitten again, so we picked him up and played again. Rob got his sharp claws and I got the rest of him. We left reluctantly to head back to the water.
At the main waterfront we watched a pigeon try and get into a walnut. He spent ages tapping it around in an attempt to crack it open. After watching it for a while and Rob filming it I decided to crack it open for it. That was my good deed for the day.
We bought two student tickets to see the dolphin show which was fantastic. The first part had two seals which were so cute. The second part were two dolphins who seemed to prefer being on land to the sea. We both tried to be cool, but we were both giggling and clapping like everyone else (obviously me more than Rob). The show itself lasted 45 minutes which was a pretty decent sized
show.
We had heard that there was a monument in the hills that is on the top 100 something or other list. We set off in the right direction to find it, stopping off every now and again to try and entice a stray dog or cat into loving us. We kind of managed to stumble across the biggest monument in Sevastopol but it wasn't the one we intended to find. From there we saw a breaker that we wanted to walk down, so we walked towards it. Every road we walked down was either gated off or guarded by military. In the end we gave in and headed back.
Back at the water front we went to a pub for a pint which we hoped wouldn't be Ukrainian but was. We wanted a beer snack but the menu wasn't in English so the waitress offered to translate. It was a nice offer, but she only knew the word potato so we ended up with a tiny plate of chips covered in mounds of parsley. We sat outside and watched the sunset. It's rather weird because the sun is so hot that it feels like summer but the
sun sets around half six.
Since we have been traveling Rob's already substantial addiction to ice cream has increased massively. We both got rather fancy ice creams and sat and ate them in the last of the days sunlight, looking out on the sea.
We tried every restaurant around the harbor and not one of them offered A single vegetarian meal. We ended up at a pizza place which was rather atmospheric but only sold pizza. A nice waiter came and deciphered the menu for us and helped us choose something we wanted. After the meal we thought it was too early to go back to the hotel so we decided to try our hand at being Ukrainian scallies. We bought some beer from a stall (strictly non Ukrainian beer, Stella for me, and Becks for Rob) and sat right at the end of the dock looking out at the sea. We spent an alarming amount of time there and it was surprisingly nice and relaxing.
