The castle looms above the town of Thun. It is worth a visit as is the old town especially around the square.
Yesterday was a wet and cool day so no mountains. A good day for shopping and looking around Thun which we did. Thun is a great town to visit at the end of Lake Thun with it's river bisecting and running through, the old town and the castle. I need add no more than that but if interested, check it out on the internet. We've visited many times before and always enjoy it.

Today, we're still in gloomy weather in the mountains but okay in the lower areas so we headed to Aeschi which is a small village in the hills between Spiez and Frutigen. We haven't been here before and there are many trails around the vicinity. We took a bus from Speiz to Aeschi then walked along the hills above Lake Thun then down to the lake to Liesegen. It would be called a pleasant walk and in no way challenging. The scenery as always was lovely looking out over the lake and through orchards of cherry trees which we helped ourselves to - there were odd ones by the road so no stealing. The other point to note were the wood piles and vegey gardens. Swissies seem

The old bridge links the old and new town over the river with it's cascade from the power generater
to have a love affair with both. The logs are cut up to a specific length and then stacked in neat piles. They seem to have enough for years rather than a season. One house had made wall of theirs, rounding the corners and putting pot plants in the pile to make it attractive. As for vegey gardens, everyone seems to have one. They are, of course, neat and tidy with raised beds. I guess this makes up for the severe winters when everything is covered with snow. They plant like crazy when it's all gone.
