Woke early to my alarm and packed my bag and eventually the tent. This morning I wasn’t feeling great after a big night last night. After my shower I ate breakfast and helped loading the bus, soon enough we were ready to leave. Today we had a long drive across the boarder to Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland. We drove all day long, stopped for lunch then continued driving until we finally reached the border. Switzerland was known to have strict border control so we were expecting to be here for a while waiting to be granted entry. The bus pulled over and Billy turned the engine off. We sat for 5 minutes and were cleared into Switzerland, Jamie couldn’t believe it. He had never heard of it taking such a short amount of time before, considering a ... read more

We made it to the Top of Europe. Amazing train system to the top, a cogwheel train and track pretty much straight through the mountain to reach the summit. On the way to the top we saw some amazing waterfalls and at the top we sent postcards (watch for the special postal code stamp when you get a card). Pat took a golf swing at winning a 100,000 chf Swiss made watch, would have been nice, to bad he wasn't in his element. After seeing the sites we took the long way down, 4 hour hike back to our hostel. I think anymore hiking is out of the question. Tomorrow we are off to Bern to witness the medieval festival, the train ride should be fun. ... read more

Switzerland- days 3-4 We took the long drive from Paris thru some very beautiful countryside to Lauterbrunnen a tiny village at the base of the famous Jungfrau and Schilthorn mountains in Switzerland, we passed many beautiful lakes and the mountains were the biggest I’d ever seen. The campsite was located in a small valley with a waterfall at the door step and the snow capped mountains off in the distance. Alex and I shared a cabin with a couple from New Zealand (wellington) Gus and Alenea, the cabins were simple but was a warm and safe place to rest our heads. We had our first top deck prepared dinner in the cook tent, we were treated to a cheese fondue which was full of booze and was so rich it you couldn’t eat too much of ... read more

Today we went to Lausanne for the day. It was amazing down by the lake the view was great. We went and checked out the Olympic museum but decided not to go inside because it was too expensive. We sat by the lake all day and relaxed. We decided to go on a boat across the lake to Montreux to meet Anne-Laure at a famous jazz festival. The next day we were so lucky to have Anne-Laure drive us around and take us to places like Gruyere and a chocolate factory to taste some delicious Swiss chocolate. Gruyere had to be one of my favourite places, it was such a beautiful small town famous for its cheese. Anne-Laure took us to a café devoted to the movie Alien, it was cool. That night Anne-Laures dad made ... read more

Today we had the opportunity to go up the Jungfrau Mountain. Ash had told us it would be one of the best experiences we would have on the trip, so of course Lauren and I paid up and went. Jungfrau means virgin and according to Ash it's surrounded by another mountain called the monk who rescued her from the ogre mountain. Anyways, we went up the mountain by train. Well it wasn't a train of sorts because it had to hook on to a cable and be pulled as we got closer to the top. As we were going up the train stopped to let us off and take pictures twice. We were a little worried because we couldn't see anything but white clouds. It was very cool because the view points were actually inside the ... read more

This day was a crazy long travel day. We drove from Paris to Switzerland. The scenery was very beautiful. To fill up the time Ash had us go up to the mike (is that how you are supposed to spell that?) and talk about ourselves. We had to tell where we were from and why we chose the tour and all of that stuff. We also had to tell an embarrasing story, a joke, or a pick up line. There were some very funny ones. I learned that many Aussis go to Canada for some reason. I mean, I suppose it is cool but it seems a little weird to be that it would be so high on the priority list. I guess I will have to go someday. We were at a campsite here, but ... read more

Yesterday, we quickly discovered that the Swiss really like Americans. On the 4th of July we woke up to breakfast in our hotel with American flag placemats and mini flag toothpicks in the muffins. It was the most festive either one of us has been in a while. We then set out on our journey to the Jungfrou (one of the highest points in Europe). A few hours and several train rides later, we were at the top of the mountain in about 30 degree weather..... in July. Definitely not prepared for that. Especially since John decided that we couldnt just stand on the look out point and admire the scenery. We had to go OUT INTO THE SNOW.... yuck. But we did go on a pretty cool dog sledding ride. And then we treked several ... read more

Last we talked with everyone, we were just leaving Paris. We then spent the next couple of days in the Rhein Valley of Germany. We had never heard of it until planning this trip, but apparently its the Castle and wine making region of the country. After just leaving Paris and London this was a nice relaxing change, and a chance for our feet to heal.......... until we accidentaly went on a 16 mile bike ride. Now were contending with sore legs and bums. But the ride was awesome and we got to ride along the prettiest stretch of river. We have now just arrived in Switzerland, after a 7.5 hour train ride, but it wasnt too bad considering we got to look at some pretty scenery. From what weve seen so far, this is going ... read more

I had envisioned being exhausted and wanting to sleep all day but woke up feeling fine and energetic. It was to be our last full day of our trip so we wanted to make the most of it. One of our busabout guides had recommended doing a cable car up into the mountains so we decided that would be our first venture of the day. We strolled down to the station and as we walked through the door I saw two girls - Tammy and Nickola who had been on my Croatia sailing trip. Nickola couldn't believe it, so much so she yelled 'ohh f*ck off'. Jez and I didn’t know whether to be shocked or amused, we opted for the latter. We yarned to them on the cable car up about all of our travels. ... read more
