Lausanne!
This is the view from the pepperdine house. It is Lake Geneva The weekend of October 12th-14th we went to Switzerland!!
Bailey, Kyle, Tim, and I left Florence early, early Friday morning. I mean early like at 2 am and had to switch trains in Bologna and Milano. It took us about 10 hours to get there but hey the reservations only cost 5 Euro so I was fine with it! We traveled past Lake Como and through the mountains....it was sooo pretty! We also pretty much slept the entire way because we were sooo tired! We arrived in Lausanne at about 12:00pm and I immediately loved it! Lausanne is located right on Lake Geneva and is beautiful! The people are also soo nice and hospitable. As we were walking up the hill to the Pepperdine Lausanne Program Hotel we saw our friends from Florence who had arrived the night before and our friends from back in Malibu who were studying in Lausanne now! It was soo good to see them!
They were on their way to a chocolate factory so we decided to go with them! Some of the guys ran our bags back to the hotel and then we hopped on a train to the factory. It took us
me and umm my friends
hahahah we met these "animals" dressed up out a toy store in Lausanne two train changes until we finally arrived at the stop for the chocolate factory...we got off of the train and THE AIR SMELLED LIKE CHOCOLATE! Imagine like chocolate heaven and this is what the air smelled like. It was amazing. We went into the factory and took a tour looking at the way they made the chocolate and its history. It was really very interesting.
We finally entered the taste test room. Where you could try as much chocolate as you possibly wanted FOR FREE! How cool is that?? I'm not a huge fan of chocolate but even I loved it and had quite a lot...well not in comparison to my friends but you get the picture.
After the chocolate museum we took some pictures and then took the train farther through the swiss countryside. We ended up getting off in some random town just to explore and ended up finding a place with bumper cars! This was sooo cool and we rode them like we did back in elementary school! It was a blast. After this we went to get something to drink and then...we found a catholic church that had been converted to protestant so we
went inside. It was only us inside the church so we sang some church songs acapella because a lot of my friends from this trip were church of christ. It was amazing to hear us singing in the church and hear the acoustics! I loved it and never wanted to stop. We sang for a good 45 minutes before we left to catch a train back to Lausanne.
We arrived in Lausanne late at night and ended up choosing to eat at an Italian restaurant close to the hotel (figures). We ate food, went to the hotel, watched a movie and crashed. I also saw my old suitemate Alyssa while I was here which was soo good! I had missed her so much! I went to bed that night in the hotel then woke up the next morning ready to explore Lausanne!
We went out into the city and the first and most important thing that we did was go to STARBUCKS!! cause they don't have starbucks in Italy =( and I suppose that is because their cappucinnos and espressos are better as well. After this we went to a truffle store and had the most amazing truffle
ever!!! It was so good! We tried to go to Salvation army after this but it was closed so we went to a cafeteria place instead. It was such a convenient building, with a supermarket on the bottom, 4 floors of department stores, and food! It was like my dream building. We shopped around a little bit after we ate and then I ended up going back with some people to go and shop and H&M which I was soo for! It was a lot of fun and I got a lot for cheap because the Frank is less. That was such a good day but it's still not over!
That night we decided to cook our own swiss dinner so, after getting all the ingredients at the grocery store, we began to cook. Somewhere between Alex burning the sausage or one of the girls burning it the fire alarm ended up going off and the firemen had to come to the hotel! It was pretty bad and apparently the hotel was going to have to pay a big fine. We offered to help pay for it since it was partly our fault but everything was fine after that little dilemna.
That night we all just went to a pretty happenin park but then ended up going out for the night. We went to this bar where english speaking singers were singing songs and playing pianos. My friend Laura and I ended up getting on stage for about 5 minutes then getting off. It was fun though! After this we went to sing karaoke and then to try and get into a club which was useless. We ended up just going home and off to sleep but all it all it was a good night and a good weekend. The next morning we had to wake up early for our train. We arrived in Firenze at around 3:30 and then ended up doing homework for the rest of the time. It was a good relaxing weekend.
