Unspunnen is a Swiss Festival that takes place every 12 years. This year was the 200 anniversary of the event. It began as a way to unite the various Cantons when Switzerland became a unified country.

The festival runs for 3 days and includes a variety of activities. There are fantastic fireworks, flag throwing, Alphorn, and jodeling competitions, Swiss wrestling matches, stone tossing contests, and the costume parade.

The stone tossing is called Unspunnen and is the major event of the weekend. There are various weight categories of stone thowing, but the Unsprunnen stone weighs 167 pounds!! The object is to see who can throw it more than 3 meters. Believe it or not, several men actually were able to do that.

The costume parade displayed the traditional dress of all the Swiss cantons. It was a colorful representation of Swiss history and culture. The Swiss have very creative parades and this one did not dissapoint.
