Another ski season based in Geneva, this season we tried some new things.
This season we learnt to cross country ski - my favourite as there are no chair lifts to fall off! La Vattay is in the Jura Mountain range, just down the road from Col de la faucille where we were skiing other seasons.
We started snow shoeing at La Dole and St Cergue. On my bucket list, was to snow shoe at night to a refuge for fondue, Murray and I were lucky enough to go with some fellow kiwis. This was planned after meeting some kiwis at Waitangi day and ended up being a few days after the Christchurch mosque attack. It was nice to be with fellow kiwis to remember those that died in the attacks and come together against this kind of terrorism.
Emma turned 8yrs old and has unsuccessfully being doing the school ski lessons with her school. She really didn't like the lessons and it was very painful to have to push the lessons. I learnt I am not a tiger mom and we eventually let her quit.
Hayley had her school play, a brilliant play called Aladins trouble.
Her drama and music teachers out did themselves, it is hard to pull off a musical at this age and they truly did.
Charlotte participated in her first global protest march for Climate change action.
Charlotte and Hayley both had ski camp with school, they both had an amazing time. Charlotte went to Le Croset. Hayley's was in Crans Montana.
I am still recovering from my sprained ankle in February, but managing to cross country ski and stand under the posts to shoot for my netball team (who had so many injuries they were struggling for numbers). I would much prefer to say I am 'playing' netball, but unfortunately I am not yet.
Murray has loved his ski season, although as always I think he would prefer more time on the slopes.
We tried out the ice curling at a local ice rink. More ice skating and tried out a new ski field nearby, La Rossey, which has some lovely, long, easy runs, followed by steep dismounts from the fast/old chairlifts. We also spent some time in Chamonix valley, at Les Houches a favourite of ours.
The kids also found a magic carpet with
some graded sledging runs in Firence, Switzerland. Emma spent the day perfecting her snowboarding skills and the girls enjoyed doing the blue, red and black sledging runs.
More netball for the girls at club level and myself when I can manage my current ski injury.
Max, Gillian and Ariana spent a week with us in Geneva before our Italy half term break.
Aunty Sarah came for a ski weekend and tried out some cross country skiing. Keith, a friend from our Kenya days, came to Geneva for some meetings. It was great to catch up.
We are looking forward to the final term at school after the easter break, which we will spend up in the Swiss side of the Alps for a change.
Wishing you and your family a safe easter break.
