Here are the rest of the pictures from my time in Ftan. I'll never forget the students and the beautiful surroundings. Hopefully I will do this again next summer. The pictures include: *A day trip during our off-weekend that some of us counselors took to Schloss Tarasp, across a valley from the camp. It took about 2 and a half hours to walk to the next village and then catch a bus to the castle. It was unlike any castle I have ever seen; no picture inside were allowed, but I got some pictures of the outside. The part of that day that I will never forget is when the organ was played inside the castle, in a large room with chandeliers, and I got chills the whole time. I've never been so affected by an ... read more

Well, I am home after a long and exciting month. The rest of camp was, as usual, crazy but fun. There were times I wanted to crawl into bed and sleep for a week, but more often than not, I shared the kids' energy and was really grateful for the time I had there. After the first two weeks, that group of kids left, and a second group came. We called the first two weeks the "Italian session" because it consisted of mostly Italian kids, and the second two weeks was nicknamed the "German session." The German school system gets out in time for the second session, but not the first, so that is why there were so many more Germans and Swiss than there were the first session. I learned from Italians how to most ... read more

The first week of having villagers has been crazy, but fun. On Monday, the students arrived, and I was one of the three counselors who went to Zurich to pick up the arrivals at the airport. There were a few flights that came in later in the day, so I waited for them, and I brought them to the camp on the train. There were five trains we had to take, and then 2 buses, so it was crazy but I got to know them pretty well, which was fun. The rest of the staff stayed at the institute and checked in with all of the arriving students who came by train or by car. From what I heard, it was very chaotic at the institute when everyone was arriving. On Mon. through Fri., we wake ... read more

The village of Ftan, Switzerland has approximately 500 people, but that number goes up quite a bit when Concordia Language Village's English immersion summer camp is in session. The facility that we use is what is used as a boarding school during the school year. It is really high up in the Alps, and on a hill overlooking the village. I, along with a guy who flew in from Omaha and a girl from Sweden, all arrived at around the same time in the morning on Monday at the Zurich airport (about 3 hours northwest of Ftan.) We met up with each other there, and the dean of the summer camp somehow found us even though he had never seen what we look like. He was with the camp nurse (who is also a staff counselor) ... read more

Dag 1 dag na aankomst Adres: Hotel Val Sinestra CH-7554 Sent Zwitserland 0041-818663105 Poeh hé, vandaag zijn we van het hotel naar Zuort gelopen (dorp - 2 huizen). Hier hebben even iets gedronken.
