December, 2005 In my incessant pursuit of experiencing the world as it is and not as it appears on the screen, I have embarked on my next installment of travel. This one has abandoned the elements that tend to plug us into one spot for the benefit of a particular society, and embrace the flux and whim of nature, vector and rhythm. What else but sailing? I've clipped the necessary puppetstrings that attach me to the US (rent, employment, and car, not to mention debt, the greatest hindrance to human movement and the prison warden of society), and am now free to move about as the world wants... full info

Liechtenstein

The Swiss mountains seen from the Vaduz youth hostel.

Vaduz

The Prince's Castle, but he won't let us in.

Vaduz seen from Switerland

This is taken from the Swiss side of the Rhein. Vaduz castle can be seen partly up the mountainside. Most of those mountians and the valley behind it make up Liechtenstein.

Ardez

Ardez is the town before Ftan. The tower is all that remains of the Steinberg Castle, destroyed by the Hapsburg neighbors in 1499.

Ftan Valley

Castle Tarasp dominates the valley looking south. This range of mountains is just over 3000 meters high.

The counselors take a day hike up 400 meters to the Alp Laret farmhouse.
