We did it!

We succesfully navigated through the train stations and made it to Bern! The capital! Parliament! Woohoo!! It was really fun to finally be away from the group and do our own thing. I don't know if it was just our luck or what but I found the Swiss German people to be soooo friendly and nice. A woman on the train directed us to the tourist desk, the woman at the tourist desk gave us a map and tons of suggestions and even booked our hostel for us, the man at the hostel desk booked our dinner reservations.. it goes on and on.

We arrived in Berne (Me, Allie, Liz, Jackie, Stacy, Brittney, Michelle and Monica) around 6 and dropped our stuff off, freshened up and then headed to dinner at Altes Tramdepot, recommended by the womain at the train station because they make their own beer in the restaraunt. She made it sound all hip and authentic but it was litterally like connected to the tourism center. Oh well. It reminded me of a Cheesecake factory or something, which was ok because the food was good and they had authentic dishes and things. I had

Great for rainy shopping
the Spaetzel which was swiss pasta and it was super cheesy but delicious. Liz and Allie were super couragous and ordered this Bavarian Sausage dish that came with a pretzel. It looked delicious at first (see pics) but it ended up being like boiled penis in water. I wish i could have a picture of Liz's face when she saw it. The red beer was good at least and so was teh apple strudel so oh well. After dinner we walked back along the river and went to sleep (losers I know) bc we wanted to get up early and take in everything. It was raining but Bern was the perfect place to be because the shopping is outdoors but the sidewalks are covered, so it wasn't miserable at all. I really loved berne because it was metropolitan but small at the same time. It kind of reminded me of Richmond in that way. They are filled with trams that run along on these tracks and hardly made a sound (literalyl, i almost got runover a bajillion times) We walked along Marktgasse, the main shoppnig street. Along the street are these intricately decorated fountains that are really cool to look

More traditional than delicious
at, and you can see the tip of the clocktower adn parliament building everywhere you go. The Einstein Haus was closed but we passed it anyway, i was kind of bummed we couldn't go inside, but there were other awesome things to see. I had a really fun time just wandering around and going in and out of shops. I started my art print collection off right with a ink drawing i found at this old store of a sculpture and somethign written in german underneath that i have to remember to google. We stayed together most of the time (well at least we always had one other person, but i kept walking while the others had lunch and went back to the river where we ate the night before and took pictures in the light of day. SOOO pretty! They also had these street vendors taht sold local produce and things, i bought some pretty delicious cheese and this plum wine some guy makes himself (that sounds sketch but it was like a gourmet farmers market) so i just munched on that while i walked around. It is a really walkable city, the woman at the trainstation wasn't exaggerating when she said you could walk the city in a few hours (surprising since i have found for the most part people's definition of time is veryy different then mine) but it was a very manageable size to see in a day. We all met back at the trainstation to go to Interlaken around 3. It was only 45 minutes away so it worked out great! Such a great first trip!
