Nikki with Michael after giving her talk to the Rotary Club of Basel - St Jakob
We woke up to a wet and rainy day. We drove into downtown Basel in the morning to have a look around and do some shopping.

At lunch time Nikki had to give her Rotary presentation to her host club the Rotary Club of Basel - St Jakob. We were very impressed with Nikki’s presentation, not that we could understand a word of it as she now speaks fluent German. A lot of the club members commented on how well she speaks German.

Despite the rain we were able to wander around Basel and do some sightseeing. It is a beautiful old city with a network of old cobbled streets. We visited the Munster which is a church built in 1000AD and climbed to spire to get views across the city. We walked to the Rhine River.

That night we had dinner with Nikki’s current host family Angela and Dieter, their daughter Geraldine and their two boy’s Yannick and Fabricio. They are a lovely family and are very supportive of Nikki.

Dieter suggested we visit the Black Forest across the Rhine in Germany and lent us his local map of the area.

English but was still able to communicate very well, Deiter’s English is quite good, although he thought otherwise. Geraldine’s English is very good. The boys are very shy when it comes to using their English.

Weather: Raining and overcast - 15C.

McCleans are a "brand" of public toilets in Basel, which cost 1SFR to use. They seem to be taking advantage of a more famous Maccas.
