OK so we met up with Pete's Mum and Dad in Klosters the other day. It was a bit of a shock for his mum as she wasn't expecting to see us, especially as we were just walking down the road and bumped into them. They we're so pleased to see us that they offered to put us up for a couple of nights in the same hotel as them, how could we say no, they would have been offended!!! So here we are with an indoor pool, sauna, jacquzzi, huge tv room for the footie with massive sofas and as much food as you can eat for brekkie and dinner. Check out the hotel at www.silvretta.ch . And we are giving Fred a rest too!! We went for a walk with Pete's Mum and Dad ... read more

Hi Guys, So we made it to Switzerland. We're not actually in Zurich but we don't know the closest place that we could select. We're staying in a place called Landquart which is just down the mountain from Klosters. We saw a camp site at the bottom of the mountain but thought we'd drive up a bit further to see if there were any campsites closer to Klosters, two hours later we arrived back where we started. It was raining when we arrived but has been a beautiful sunny day today. We headed for Klosters to go up the mountain in a cable car and Ragz told me it might be cold up there so we took a jumper, instead I got sunburnt. When we got off the cable car we were at 1600m above sea ... read more

Wow.... my first entry i've done! I found a diary, in which I can write when I'm travelling... it was really not easy! I guess I have to write in English, otherwise they will delete my entries.... So I'm sorry about my English mistakes. But I really don't have the time to check my spelling and grammar :-) So I don't have to disurbing you with long emails about my (short-) trip to Africa. It's really a short trip, when I look on this website with those all long travelldiaries.... At the moment, I'm in Switzerland, in Winterthur at home. I already made my luggage, but I repack my luggage every day... Tomorrow is my last working day before my vacation. So I have to buy a lot of little things, which I forgot... and on ... read more

After spending 10 hours on a flight from Dallas to Zurich in front of the 2 brattiest children on the planet, we are a little tired and have confirmed our decisions not to breed (anytime soon for Jennifer or ever for me). Thankfully we made it without completely losing it. It's 39 degrees and raining here. So far the only thing of note we've seen is a runaway pig. ... read more

Bright and early on Thursday morning, Pam and I took the train four hours to Zurich in eastern Switzerland. Zurich is a charming city also on a lake with church towers and spires dotting the skyline and a small old town that was easy to explore on foot, which we did after checking into our hostel (we stayed in four- or six-bed rooms during our trip, which was better than the dormitory rooms I stayed in when I backpacked Europe after graduating from college, but I can now say that I am done with hostels. I'll leave them for the yutes.) After exploring old town, in the afternoon we again rented free bikes and rode along Lake Zurich. But this was no ordinary sight-seeing ride. We were headed to the Lindt chocolate factory just outside Zurich ... read more

If you ever have a chance to ride a night train I suggest doing it, at least for the experience. I left Venice at 11pm last night and took the train up here to Zurich arriving this morning. Sleeping isn't exactly easy on a train but it's an interesting and mildly amusing experience. Especially when you have a car with 2 Brits and a Bulgarian that speaks almost no English. All in all a decent time. The downside was not getting to see most of Switzerland's landscape. I caught a bit of the mountains early this morning and was in love with it instantly. The mountains shoot straight up to the sky that this morning was blue with white puffy clouds. It was cool but not cold and all I wanted to do was get off ... read more

Finally the day is here. The day of the sudden departure -- the day of the long-awaited arrival! As I mentioned in my earlier post the time doesn't seam to pass by first. Since I received the letter from the Kentucky Consular Office in June 2005 and knew that I soon will leave Switzerland I waited a long time until I could start to count the days or even the hours. I began to count the days only 5 days before the departure. On the second last day I switched to hours - 36, 28, 18, 12 hours. This morning I stopped to count the hours but I didn't counted minutes instead. First of all because I was rather busy. The last couple days I was at my father's place. I decided to get up early ... read more

Hey guys. Emily and I made it to our final stop, Zurich, Switzerland. The weather here was perfect yesterday. Maybe around 60 degrees and sunny. Once we checked into our hostel and dropped our stuff off, we explored Zurich. It is a much smaller city than what I was expecting. I would say its in between a city and a town. Its very cute and seems like something out of the movie Pleasantville where everything is perfect. Unfortunately, its one of the most expensive cities in the world, so things are necessarily cheap. We walked along Lake Zurich yesterday afternoon with the snow capped Alps in the background. It was amazingly beautiful. We had some great, but expensive, ice cream and sat on along the lake. We met some guys from England, Australia, and the US ... read more
