The Final chapter:Interlaken and Zurich Arrived in Interlaken by train. Interlaken is located between Lake Brienz to the east and Lake Thun to the west in the area called Bödeli , hence the name of the town. Our landlady suggested that we take a ride on the The Schynige Platte Railway which rises 1987m. It is a rack railway and travels at an average speed of 12km/h, but rewards visually were great on the way up and at the top. It overlooks many mountains, the 3 best known being The Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. We went for a hike (to work off 20 days of carbs and ice cream) for a couple of hours the trigger button on the camera was glowing red hot. We climbed to the top of the ridge through an alpine ... read more

September Swish swish. Europe the second time but now, it's mainland. New project, new assignment, new adventures. Everyone in the workplace was ecstatic when the ever precious work permits were granted. Although the originally planned L-permit wasn't given, we were still considered lucky being the D-permit holders. "Switzerland! Lindt! Nice! You are so lucky! Lots of money! Astig ka! Pasalubong! Chocolates! Eurotrip!" - are the words I kept on hearing as the day drew by. Time really went fast - visas were supposed to be out on a Thursday, and we were schedule to leave Saturday a week after. A good one week to prepare. Nice. For a new family man like me, it is not easy. It won't be easy. But then the news came - client wants us a week earlier, so the planned ... read more

"Flitterwochen" is the German word for "honeymoon." I just love that word! On Labor Day, Rob and I will be leaving for a 10-day honeymoon trip, mostly in Germany. No, Hawaii was not our honeymoon -- we just went there to get married and there was little time for sightseeing or exploring! Internet access in Germany could be a problem -- we just don't know if it will be available in the smaller "mom and pop" hotels or how much it will cost (if it's an "arm and a leg," we will look for a Starbucks or Internet cafe in Heilbronn and Munich). That means we may not be able to post daily. I bought a small Acer netbook for the trip, which is lightweight and easy to pack, so we'll be able to check out ... read more

Family and friends, I just tried to "publish" our first blog entry for this trip, but it had already posted without notifying you. So this is the notification! We are still packing this evening, and hopefully, will not have to stay up too late and will not forget anything important. So we're counting down once again! Take care. Vanda... read more

Dear all, Thanks for all your kind comments regarding previous blogs. Sorry I have been a bit slack in posting of late, but we have been on the move quite a bit since Ireland. At the moment we are staying with friends, Roger and Leeane in Zurich. Their apartment is very swish and we have great views of the city from the 6th floor of their apartment block. Weather here is humid, but warm compared to Ireland. Some bad luck also occurred in Amsterdam where we were prior to Zurich. I lost a bag which contained my Mac laptop, address book, copies of poems, essays I had written in Ireland, books etc. Thankfully our travel documents were in another bag. Some of the work on the laptop was saved, but I lost a long essay on ... read more
