The idea to pay a visit to Kolmården, Scandinavia’s largest Wildlife Park in Sweden came from my
mother- in - law. Actually she had almost booked the whole thing before I realized properly we really are going. At the beginning I wasn't so exited seeing that detail that I had been there already as a child and I know it's stupid to say but after The Singapore Zoo.. could anything be better or even at the same level?!. When the departure day came closer ( and rush at work came worse) I, however started to feel exited. Finally I would have couple days break and possibility to travel nicely to Sweden and back.
From Finland the best way to reach Kolmården and visit Sweden is to have nice big cruiser over the sea and take a bus straight to the park. Second option is to book the whole packet from the tour operator and just sit and walk when they told so. To be honest this was a comfort change after our Asia period where we had no any kind of change to relax while moving to one place to another.
Kolmården itself is not just a typical zoo
Ãbo's archipelago
or actually it's a dry land at Finland's side all animals locked in at their cages. There animals have possibility to walk more or less free and whole the area the park covers is huge. Especially interesting point, which I was waiting the most was The Safari Park. At this park we met wild animals close up and personal - from our own bus! Our bus driver also wanted to make absolutely sure that we closed all the windows since we met ostriches, giraffes, bears, wolves and other animals along the way.
After the Safari Park started the freetime to discover Kolmården on our own. We had all together six great hours time to see, walk, sit, amaze and stop some of the variety of restaurants along the way. The park's ticket prize included also us to watch "a world-class dolphin show" at new Marine World. Although I have my own opinion about the dolphins which are not allowed to be in freedom ( which I don't want to start to tell you now..) the show was pretty much ok. Not splendid but amusing considering the fact that whole the building was full packet of people, mainly families and children.
It took almost that six hours to
see whole the park and animals there. After that my legs were burning and tired. I really wonder how those parents with the small children really do that, or maybe they are not so ambitious to see every little detail than we did.. Anyway I was glad to visit there and see that Kolmården really suits for every age, and what is more important. At the end of the trip I finally realized, The Kolmården was not supposed to be better or worse than any other place or zoo here. It was just "Same same but different!" - like they say in Thailand..
