Maandagochtend door Go:teborg gebanjerd, net gedaan of we touristen waren.

The Swedes are a genetically blessed people. I've been strolling around two cities so far, and I'm convinced every time a local sneezes the blessing must be ... you are so good looking! From the kids, to the guys, and of course the girls, it seems that everyone here in Sweden is oh so fabulous. But the Swedes are not just phenomenal eye candy, they are a creative and resourceful people whose influence on design, fashion, architecture, automobiles and of course pop music has spread worldwide. The cities I've visited so far are super modern and super efficient, with prices on par with other Western European cities. The great Swedish adventure commenced, dear reader, with a half hour train ride from Copenhagen to the southern city of Malmo. But this was no ordinary train ride, as ... read more

Hey folks, We are now in Gothenburg, Sweden. Tomorrow we are going to our last Scandinavian destination, Copenhagen. I am looking forward to Denmark. I heard fantastic things about this country. I dont really know where to start. Sweden was a very unbalance experience. I love Stockholm and hate it a lot sometimes. Stockholm old city will charm you and a boat ride to the archipelago is a fun experience. However, as much as watching the sun go down after midnight is a great experience, Stockholm was annoying at time. I really dont want to pis someone off, almost everybody we met in Sweden were great and a lot nicer to us that we expect, but Scandinavia is not a backpacking destination. Most of the people we met here were hikers or European on a ... read more

I had another fun dorm-mate this morning… at 8am she decided to turn all the lights on, run the sink full blast and open all the windows - to the sounds of construction outside. Thank you ma’am. Out of spite I lay in bed for another hour and half - today was a sleep-in day - I wasn’t giving it up that easily lol. I wandered off towards the Natural History Museum (Museum of Nature) since it had free entry for students. (Score - always go for the freebies). Of course I get off the tram only to find out I have to climb a huge hill to get to the museum haha, but fine, I did it. I got my ticket to go in (I spoke English) and she neglected to inform me the displays ... read more

Yesterday’s bus ride, although unplanned haha, was quite lovely to Goteborg =) First thing I noticed as we drove in to the city was the giant mall, Nordstan - omg, it is huge. I definitely made a note to myself that I was coming back there haha. I have to say once again how much I love that dogs are everywhere - there seems to be two breeds of preference here: Chihuahua and Staffordshire/Pitbull Terriers. It’s odd haha, but still cute. I miss my pets =( I found my hostel without much trouble - I’m staying about 15min from the core, and it’s on 3 tram lines… absolutely perfect! I got a 72-hour tram pass - I’m good to go. I FINALLY found a hostel with a working dryer, so I got laundry my done and ... read more

So, what was the reason behind going to some burial ground in the middle of who-knows-where Sweden? Well, as mentioned before, Katie makes documentaries and such. Under the naked man we were joined by some of her classmates who specialized in performance arts. The point was to film them doing some improve at this park (Katie, feel free to correct me on my likely non PC interpretation of what we were doing there :) Anyhow, it was a great idea. After the sunset, we headed up to Oxevik, Sweden to sleep the night, then head back down for the improve performance. Rising bright and early at 5 am so as to catch the sunset, we jumped in the van. I got to ride shotgun, given the responsibilities of looking for moose and, seemingly more likely speed ... read more

Just got an email from my mother who pointed out that I haven't posted a blog in a while. I'm guessing mz mom was just telling me this on Fred's behalf, since I know he logs onto his computer as soon as he gets home. Since the last time I posted anything, there have been a few adventures. As I write (and roll back the date on this entry), I've made it to Berlin... via Copenhagen, Denmark, via Göteborg, Sweden. Truth is, a lot of the internet connections are less-than-stellar and it can take quite a while to upload the photos. And face it, the pictures are far better than anything I have to say :) So, let me rewind to Sweden for a minute. Originally, I had planned to take a trip to Stockholm, but ... read more
