Good evening from the beautiful city of Stockholm! We have had a busy few days here taking in as much as we can in the limited time! We arrived here via overnight ferry from Tallinn, Estonia on June 22. We had a great trip over as we had a room with a window! One window equals one happy Roxanne! When one is stuck on a boat for 16 hours, you have a few choice as to what to do; sleep, eat, drink, shop or watch the Russians clear out the duty free liquor store of most of their whiskey! We watched 4 young Russian men buy no less than 10 bottles each, per person, per purchase. This would not have been so exciting had we not watched them do this countless times, for hours! We had ... read more

We woke up to drizzly showers in Stockholm this morning. We packed our bags up and had our first experience of shared hostel showers (we had a private room again but no en-suite this time, slowly easing ourselves in to the hostel scene) which was better than expected. We then checked out, as I am moving on to Gotland today and Dan is in another hostel for the remainder of his time in Stockholm, and loaded ourselves up like pack mules to find brekkie and check out the royal palace and Rikstag buildings. Breakfast was at Cafe Schweizer (TripAdvisor proving its worth its weight in gold again) where we got a massive wedge of salmon and spinach quiche with salad and bottomless coffee (and good coffee at that) for a comparably reasonable £14 each. We then ... read more

No sun cream needed to be applied today as the forecast was a little overcast followed by thunderstorms and showers! We sorted ourselves some breakfast in Mosquito, packed up our bags and left them in the luggage cupboards at the hostel before we checked out and headed down to the Jewish district to look around. We headed more south an we had done in our two previous days, down past the Wawel, to see a number of Synagogues and churches. A couple of which were quite exceptional whereas others just looked like a town hall or similar. There were a few instances of some interesting street art which I probably enjoyed looking at more than half the buildings we had come to see. The weather held out for us for a bit longer than expected and ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! I landed in Stockholm early this morning, Marcus was busy with work and the preparations for the birthday party so I'd spend the day alone until the party in the evening. I had already decided to visit Livrustkammaren, the part of the royal palace that houses the arms and armour of the former Swedish kings and queens, I visited it once when I was a boy but it was a long time ago and I looked forward to seeing it once again. On my way there I first passed S:ta Clara Kyrka, a beautiful church built in the latter half of the 16th century on the same site where a nunnery and another church was once located that was torn down by Gustav I, in Sweden known as Gustav Vasa. As I ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! This trip sort of came about a bit on a whim, I felt I needed a bit of a break from work and my last trip to Japan was quite far behind me and I really had an itch at the bottom of my feet to get back out on the road again even if only for a short while. While looking on the world map and browsing for flight tickets my eyes fell upon United Arab Emirates and it's neighbouring Oman, I did a quick check and found that I didn't need a VISA for UAE and I could apply for one at the border crossing into Oman. At the same time an invitation for the birthday party for two of my friends, Marcus and Christofer, came into my postbox, they ... read more

After such a wonderful time in Amsterdam we did not know what to expect from such a grande city like Stockholm. The result was an equally amazing experience that our group will soon not forget. I was amazed by this culture which was in ways similar to our own yet so different. I will never forget the people we encountered there and the things we learned. Brian Valinhas ... read more

This was our second time in this beautiful city. Having briefly spent just a day here several years ago, we were determined to see more of what Stockholm has to offer. Ogling at the amazing architecture, visiting the museums and riding the canal boats were but some of the activities we enjoyed. The hop on and hop off buses were very useful to get a good overview of the city especially as it is quite well spread out. Add the boats to the mix and transporting oneself around the attractions was easy-peasy. The main highlights for me were the Vasa museum, the Fotografiska exhibitions and of course the Abba museum. It was hard to believe we spent four hours at the Vasa museum as the history of this ill-fated ship was so fascinating. The queue at ... read more

23rd July, Stockholm Three days in this beautiful, historic city. Staying out at Angby, a small beach with Stockholm's nearest campground, just 20 or so minutes from the nearby metro station to the city centre. Highlights have been: wandering the cobbled streets of Gamla stan, the old area, relaxing on the Under the Bridges Tour, the guided tours of the Moderna Museet and Nobel Museum, out of town visiting Sigtuna and Drottingholm Palace. I had wanted to visit the modern art museum since reading a Guardian article some months ago about Hilma af Klint a local artist whose paintings I was quite taken by. We arrived just as a guided tour was statting so ended up with a 40 min summary of art from 1900 through the paintings in the gallery. We felt much more knowledgeable ... read more
