That was the travel day directly from hell. HP up about 6:00 on Wednesday and Bird about a half hour later. Yep, early for Bird. We finally arrived at our apartment in Stockholm on Thursday at 7:30 pm. To be fair that is synonymous with 1:30 Georgia time. Nonetheless, it encompasses over thirty hours-a long time to be traveling. Now for the sorry details. HP obtained the tickets last January, being quite pleased with himself at the price even though it included a six-hour lay over in Munich. He thought perhaps a car could be rented for a brief foray to some locale. Well, HP was able to secure absolutely no sleep on the flight over, while Bird was limited to less than an hour. We arrived in Munich very tired, looking for a place to ... read more

Thursday 3rdMay 2018 Well, after a hectic two days in London seeing friends and the musical Chess, we left for Gatwick early on the 3rd May and after the Campervan on the M25, bus, airplane, bus, train, subway and funicular, eventually reached our Airbnb about 7.00pm (Swedish time!) in the rain! We have bought a travelpass, at the Information Point at the airport, for 220Seks each (over 65’s) which is about £21.00 for 7 days unlimited travel on the buses, trains and ferries. Very clear instructions of how to get to the Airbnb, which was just as well as it was quite a complicated journey, made very easy! After a delicious meal of chicken and vegetables cooked by Erika, had a quick walk around the lake for 40mins – nice views! Friday 4th May 2018 It ... read more

Street art in southern Stockholm In 2014 Ake visited London and went on a street art tour in East End. That tour was really good and Ake saw much interesting art of very high quality. In the years since then we have from time to time found street art also in other cities. Whenever we on buildings or walls in cities see one piece of art that makes us stop and take a closer look we also scan the adjacent buildings. Because if there is one piece of street art there are often more. In some places they open up several walls for street art. At such locations there are dozens or sometimes even hundreds of artworks to be found. There is one such place in Stockholm, Snösätra in Rågsved. Rågsved is a quiet suburb in ... read more

Sunday, 25th March 2018 After breakfast at the hotel this morning, we took the Tunnelbanan to Kungstradgarden Station where we transfered to Tram #7 to the ABBA Museum. Kungstradgarden could be nice to visit during the spring season when the hundreds of sakura trees would blossom in unison to usher into the warm season. Tram #7 is the only tramline in service in Stockholm city. It provides a direct linkage from the Central District to Djurgarden, a museum island located off the east side of the city. We chose to stop by at the ABBA Museum since I was (am still) a big fan of their upbeat songs having watched the Mama Mia Musical in London as well as dancing to their music during our brief clubbing days when we were younger. We did not choose ... read more

Saturday, 24th March 2018 R popped by for breakfast this morning before our long journey to Stockholm where we would be staying over the weekend. We had a sumptuous breakfast before our long, six hours train journey to Central Stockholm. We rode on the 11.16am train from Oslo Central Station. Sitting in the First Class Coach, we found the leg room in between seats to be extremely generous. It was worth spending the SEK 100 extras for the comfort. There was a small bar at the end of our car where we could help ourselves to some coffee and water as well as some fruits and desserts. There was also a meal car in the middle of the train line where sandwiches, salads and drinks could be purchased. While the 525km journey was lengthy, we found ... read more

Today was our last full day here so we made all the rounds to say our goodbyes. We all did the forest trail loop, then we walked down to the lake and walked the paths there to say goodbye. It really is such a lovely spot. We will miss it a lot. Then after lunch we went on our final bike tour guided by Nigel who is getting very familiar with the trails. There are trails literally everywhere here. It is such a pleasure to ride here. Our butts are feeling it now (after biking to Stockholm last night for the game and then again all over today) but tomorrow will be travelling all day so quite sedentary. The bike ride today was really nice. We have noticed that the kids play parks here are so ... read more

Up early again for another trip to Stockholm by transit. Made it to our first stop which was a 2 1/2 hour archipelago boat tour. This was fantastic. The weather was perfect and we sailed out of the inner harbour out to the inner archipelago. There are 30,000 islands in this area but we did not see them all (only most of them). This area is cottage country for the locals (although increasingly people are making them year-round homes). They take their cars on ferries and spend their summers on these islands. If they don't have a summer home, they might have a boat and island hop for several weeks at a time. Sweden has a law regarding property that states that anyone can go on any land (as long as they do not do damage ... read more

Today was the second day of heading into Stockholm on transit to be tourists. Today we took the bus from outside our house directly to our destination. Our first stop was the Skyview which is a glass ball that moves on a track up the side of the Ericsson Globe. The Ericsson Globe is one of four different arenas in Stockholm that are used for hockey, soccer, and concerts (and they are all 100m from each other). We were right beside the Tele2 Arena which is where we will go to see the soccer game next week. As it is a glass ball, the views in all directions are spectacular. Needless to say, I stayed on terra firma (as always this is Lori blogging). The rest of them enjoyed this bubble ride. Next up was a ... read more
