Memorial coins
Memorial coin, necklace and bracelet. On the bracelet it says "True Love 2010". Some people obviously buy things like this. We don't! Warning: Viewing the photos in this blog entry can cause serious damage to your health
Ake is going away on a vacation starting on Wednesday. This vacation has a bit of a background to it and here we would like to tell you that.
We try to avoid to view our personal opinions on things on this blog. We don't want to make political statements or say things that people can be offended by. Today we are going to make an exception and we are going to use the blog to make public our personal opinions on an event that is going to take place on June 19 2010.
On June 19 2010
Princess Victoria, Crown Princess of Sweden, is getting married to her boyfriend
Daniel Westling. This is an event that, according to us, has received way too much attention in the Swedish media. This media attention started already last year when the couple announced their engagement. Newspapers, TV and weekly magazines went totally ballistic right away. For a while their engagement was the only thing you heard about on the news. Then it quiet down for a while last winter but in January the newspapers started writing
Wedding Ice Cream
To be honest it says "Wedding Cone" and not "Wedding Ice Cream". But it doesn't help. It is still really embarrassing about the wedding again. Also in January all the TV stations started their wedding programs and documentaries on the Royal Family. Since then they have broadcast loads of programs and documentaries related to the wedding. It's been documentaries on the monarchy in Sweden over the last 250 years, the Royal Family and their lives over the last 40 years, royal traditions, past royal weddings in Sweden, royal weddings in other countries and even one on royal infidelities. They have in the newspapers and the news on TV had reports on how the preparations for the wedding proceeds. We have seen interviews with various people who are going to be involved in the wedding in one way or the other. They range from the men who are going to row the couple in a boat during the processions through Stockholm to the priests performing the actual ceremony.
Yes, it is correct that we write "priests" using plural. We don't want to know too much about this wedding. But from what we understand there are going to take not less than three priests to wed the couple. It is somewhat confusing why they have to be three. We know the duties
Photos, mugs and other things you don't need
This shop window contains a lot of stuff nobody needs such as mugs and plates with photos of the princess and her boyfriend on them of one of them. He or she is going to say "Do you Victoria take this bloke with greasy hair and phoney smile to be your husband" and so on. But what the other two are going to do we're not sure. Maybe they are going to performing an exorcism on the couple...
When we are writing this it is still one week left until the wedding and the media coverage has already taken ridiculous proportions. We start to wonder if it is a wedding that is coming up or a world war...
To celebrate the wedding Stockholm is putting on a two week long festival called Love Stockholm 2010. We are not translating the name or anything. It really
is called Love Stockholm 2010. First of all we find it weird that people are so interested in this wedding that it is necessary to have an entire festival so that people can celebrate it properly. Secondly, why can't they give the festival a Swedish name? It is so stupid to give it an English name.
"Princess Fiona" is going to marry her "Prince Charming" and the bottom line is
we don't care. We feel
Memorial Stamp
Seeing this in the metro in the morning can really ruin the day. Memorial stamp? Do we really need that? The text says "True Love" by the way. that the media attention has been totally blown out of proportions. We are not interested in a documentary from 1986 showing the royal family making Christmas preparations. We don't want to know what the man assigned to pick up the poop after the royal horse intends to have for breakfast on the day of the wedding. We can die happy not knowing that the entire church where the wedding is going to take place was cleaned using water, soap and a toothbrush. We don't want to hear for the 34th time that the princess suffered from anorexia 10 years ago. We don't care about what they are going to eat at the wedding reception. We couldn't care less if "Prince Charming" after the marriage can call himself "Royal Highness" or not. We are fed up with all this! We have had enough!
We can unfortunately not in this blog entry show the documentaries that have been on TV. You just have to trust us when we say that it feels like there's been at least one each evening the last months. Lately it's been more like three or four documentaries each evening. We won't show you any
Memorial Stamp
The pictures on the stamps are actually quite ugly. Not only Daniel's smile look phoney there but Victoria's too clippings from the news papers either or the interviews and all the news pieces from the nine o'clock news either. What we are going to show you are photos that show you some of the more revolting attempts on how people are trying to make money on selling things by putting the word "Wedding" on them or a picture of the couple. Some of the photos are really horrible.
On the day of writing this it is still a week left to the wedding and it feels like the media attention still is just building up momentum towards a climax of hysteria. On June 19 we expect that all hell is going to break loose.
Already half a year ago Ake had an idea that he would get sick of it all long before the day of the wedding. As it turned out it has been much worse than the he imagined that it would be. It's been a nightmare the last few weeks. But Ake is not going to be a sitting duck and just wait for this to happen. He is going away from it all by travelling to China for 12 days. Ake
Wedding Chocolate
Wedding chocolate? That's so silly! And ironic since "Prince Charming" used to own a fitness studio and "Princess Fiona" used to suffer from Anorexia nervosa. And why the name in English? prefers to say that he is forced to go in exile because of the royal wedding. This is why we feel that it makes sense to use Travelblog to write about the royal wedding. After all it is the royal wedding that triggers Ake to go to China. So this blog entry can be seen as a foreword to the forthcoming blog entries from the Middle Kingdom.
When we are writing this we don't have the final chapter yet. Since the wedding is still a week away we are likely to have to add more photos to this blog entry. But from what we hear we are not the only ones who don't care about the royal wedding. They expected every hotel room in entire Stockholm to be booked months ago but it istn't so. The hotels still have vacancies. They expected thousands of visitors to stockholm so the railway company arranged with several additional trains to haul the masses of people to and from the city. They have sold so few tickets on these trains thatthey had to cancel them. That same thing happened to bus charter companies who wanted to capitalise on people who wanted
Official Love Airport
This is beyond silly! This is stupid! to visit Stockholm to take part of the royal wedding. The arranged for four or five busses but had to cancel them because they couldn't find any passengers to go on them. Ake has a few times walked through the area where they are holding the festival Love Stockholm 2010, it's on the way to his job so he can't avoid it, and he is surprised over how few guests he has seen there. As things look now the arrangements surrounding the wedding might turn out to be a fiasco.
By the way, wouldn't it be funny if they at the wedding were dressed like a
Jedi Knight and
Princess Leia and were married by an officiant dressed as
Darth Vader. If they did that we could even consider watching it!

Bra skrivet! Instämmer i allt!! Tyvärr tror jag inte alla skriverier försvinner efter bröllopet. Då kommer media skriva om när nästa arvinge ska komma, hmmm.....
