One of the features of the amusement park was a collection of mini houses

Formerly an amusement park called Vikingland

Over Easter we visited two places in Skane District in Sweden that we would like to mention in the blog. These two places are not perhaps the most typical of tourist sights. The first one is a former amusement park called Vikingland, or Viking Land if you want the name into English.

Vikingland was founded in the early 1970-ies and was a park for both children and for grown-ups. For just over a decade the park was a popular attraction locally and on good days it was visited by thousands of people. Emma visited the park in the early 1980-ies but she doesn't remember much of it.

In 1985 the owners decided to give up the business and they closed the park. The owners sold off what could be sold and the rest, and there was plenty that was specially created for this specific park and that wasn't interesting for anybody else, was more or less left as it was. After more than 20 years of neglect the old attractions has started to fall apart and the park was all overgrown with trees up until a year ago or so.

heard about this "amusement park that had turned into a forest" a few years ago and have since then been thinking about visiting it. This Easter we finally had time to go. When we arrived we noticed that much of the forest that used to cover the former amusement park has been cut down and that several of the attractions that had been left behind have been removed. But there was still enough left to make it worth going there. The photos tell you most of the story. The only thing we can add is that occationally we had the same feeling here as we had when we visited Pripyat in Ukraine.

This track has been used for some kind of racing. What precisely we don't know. It was a short track so it must have been something for small children

Mnjä, skulle snarare tro att det är en dopfunt, men vad vet jag. Zakje hälsar att det nog är ett äckligt bad, vad man nu ska bada för :-)
