Alladin
In the train all alone, drinks and movies, such an uncomfortable way to travel ;) So, today, on the 9th of January, I have finally arrived in Lund. The trip by train was really comfortable except for the passport check (in the Schengen zone???) which seemed a bit useless since they let the boy without any papers or reliable story of what he was doing in Denmark in anyway. First 6 hours I sat all alone and watched Disney's Alladin, read. Then when I started sleeping I was woke up by a couple of Germans joining in.
Later on I would find out that one of the German girls was heading to Lund as well so once we got off in Copenhagen we traveled the last part together. Of course the train had 'unexpected' problems so we needed to catch a connection in Malmö as well. Feels just like home 😊.
Arriving in Lund was really easy. Mentors (Swedish student who help you out with pretty much everything here as an exchange student) were waiting for us, guided us into busses and drove us to the AF building where all the registration issues were sorted. I passed out a lot of food there to people who didn't bring enough to feed a house of
Kaho and Sabine
Kaho made his first pancake. It was sort of hard to flip so Sabine decorated it to make it look a bit nicer ;). We were all invited to sample his 'work'. orphans and made some friends there. One of them was Hannes who would later turn out to be my 'neighbour' (sort of).
Anyway, registration went smooth, people were really nice and soon I was off in another bus together with a French girl who is now known as 'luggage-girl' to us 😉 and Hannes and some other people. I was placed in Sparta, in an international corridor, just as I wanted, woopteedoo! Met my first flatmates: Tom from England, Wong Ka Ho from China (called Kaho from now on), Sabine from Germany, Svenja from Germany, Hannes of course 😉 (from Finland) and Pauline from France. There are plenty more but I'm sure I'll mention them 😉 Else you can always ask. Again: everyone was really nice and even though first meetings are always a bit awkward this soon disappeared, I feel lucky that I am in an international corridor even though the facilities could have been better (this is sort of an understatement). ICA (the local department store) is just next door as is my faculty (LTH, Faculty of Engineering, department of Design). Lund town centre is a 15 minute walk, which isn't much but I guess I really
Pancakes
Well I made pancakes as well for everyone on my second day and Sabine wanted to decorate them all. need to get my hands on a bicycle. My room apparantly is the largest one here, which everyone reminded me of.
Well I unpacked, tried to make my room feel like home (tip if you're going abroad: bring posters/photos) and so on, cause your room will be very unpersonal, I sort of forgot 😊) and met some more people. In the evening I had a drink with my supervisor and me and Hannes explored Lund for a bit after which we sat down in the kitchen and had a couple of Drinks. This was repeated on thursday, along with my first actual lecture about EON reality which will be important for my project, since it is an environment in which you can program VR simulations. Met the people at the VR Lab and some people at the department.
The afternoon deserves its own story. As an interaction student I obviously have a Wii which I hooked up. Well I couldn't have done something better. I think everyone is now addicted, my Wii has never been used that much. Even the greatest sceptic (this is you Svenja) were convinced when they tried, + it's a real easy way to
Marion at the Wii
Marion also didn't believe it at first, but the Wii is much fun! learn people's names 😉. Our neighbours thought it was kinda funny to look at we heard later. I'll attach some pictures and perhaps a movie 😊. It's nice to see people try it and especially Kaho was pretty fanatic, I think everyone will want to play with him (or against him) sooner or later.
On friday and saturday we visited the nations (the hålland nation and the wermland nation). Nations are sort of social student organisations. It's pretty much the only way to party here in Lund so you basicly have to join one (join one and you can go to parties of every nation). They host their parties at a sort of pub/disco I guess. Beer wasn't too expensive and we had a blast at both, though they could've opened a window at hålland instead of just leating us sweat there. At Wermland we met this Swedish guy who kept asking if we knew 4Chan and loved the Netherlands, even though he has never been there. He thinks we're sooo liberal 😉.
Almost forgot! I made pancakes for a lot of people, and even tought Kaho how to make them, he'll become a real pancake artist in
Kaho and the Wiimote
Kaho is the biggest fan I think, though I just happened to snap when he closed his eyes. Hong Kong I bet! Everyone here seems to love them so that gets me off easy if I have to cook 😉 Which is nice of course! A lot of people here don't really eat together so I'm going to have to work on that 😊.
Sunday was pretty quiet, slept a lot mostly.
Monday I met my mentor group, a real friendly bunch of people, though they wanna do a LOT together and I also have my flatmates so it's gonna be juggling both for a while I guess. We took a walk through Lund and now I know where everything is! Really! I'll never forget!
Anyway, in summary, it is great here. My first week as an exchange student was pretty awesome. I met so many friendly people and had tons of fun with everyone. It's always fun to hear about stuff which you think is normal in other countries and see how others cook. The Swedes themselves are really friendly people. I get the feeling that professors here are a bit more... social to their students I guess. Which makes for interesting conversations 😊. Nations are great and Lund is a really small and
Svenja & the Wii
The unbeliever that didn't like the wii being a fanatic! fun place to be so yeah, really looking forward to the coming 8 months.
Well, regards everyone who made it till here, I'll post some updates later when I do something more than just go to nations and eat here 😉
Later!

hmm
Since that this blog has been here for a while, combined with the facts that 1) you are the most active person I know and 2) You need to review comments I suppose it'll take some time to get to this one.. :) BTW, you could have just led us all to believe Kaho plays blind :)
