Bueno! Last week I went to a Salsa lesson-- the first one was free-- of course it was a ton of fun and I learned a lot but I rather be taking Flamenco lessons as it is actually a Spanish dance ... There were only 4 of us at the first Flamenco lesson- it was complicated but still fun. Anna is our instructor who doesn´t speak English and is very very very patient with us. She talks A TON and very much likes to tell us funny stories about people she encounters during her flamenco experiences. The steps are complicated, though, so I'll have to practice sometime before the next lesson so I don´t forget them. She said that someday the 5 of us will be able to put on all of the flamenco gear- dresses ... read more

i'm definitely back in the reality of travelling (no longer holidaying)!! i arrived here on thursday night after a full day of flying. oh by the way, i flew with virgin express (equivelant of virgin blue) and i had a 3 hour stop over in brussels. it was good to get back to belgium again. not that i saw any of it. i was hanging for some belgian chocolate again but a box the same size that i bought for 3 euros in brugge cost a very affordable (not) 15 euros. no belgian chocky for me. how sad!! flight was ok. no tv though. no food either. so it was pretty terrible actually. luckily i had a good book - my 3rd dan brown so far. yesterday wasn't the best day. didn't get much done. i ... read more

Imagine will you...thousands upon thousands of people having made their way to a small town near Valencia, Spain. No more than 30 min. from the beach, this once quiet and serene town, Bunol, becomes the center of the worlds largest tomato fight. Crammed into the streets like cattle, the pushing, the heat and the overwhelming body odor combined with the the excitement of the being the first to throw the tomatoes, everyone is pumped and shouting with anticipation.... Once in the crowd and there was enough space between people, there were shouts of "camasita, camasita, camasita"! If there was a shirt on, you better beleive it would be ripped off! I was hiding between Alejandro and Laini, and I was the only one fortunate enough to had kept my shirt on! It is quite possibly one ... read more

... vom Reisetag!

After the tomato fest that Valencia was, it was time for a road trip for a couple of days with Claire and Neill to the next coastal town on the map... Alicante!.. and our main purpose here is to do nothing but enjoy the beach! Situated about 2 hours south of Valencia, Alicante is a decent sized town with the main street called, La Rambla (like many main streets in the cities of Spain) that has many bars selling tapas & sangria, no shortage of gelari and crepes and little stalls that come out at night set up down closer to the beach offering many cheap bargains, from sunglasses to cds to handbags...... almost certainly from the streets of Bangkok! There are massive seaside apartment blocks on the oceanfront, the sand is a dirty brown colour, ... read more

Wow how can I describe LA TOMATINA except ABSOLUTELY CRAZY MADNESS. How to describe it all. It was sooo crazy. Firstly I´ll start with the tour group I decided to do to participate in it. We all checked into the hotel on Tuesday & I immediately made friends with my room mates who were some crazy fun girls. The group of nearly a hundred was mainly made up of Aussies and Kiwis an a smattering of other nationalities. We started with a pub crawl through Valencia which was not bad but I had been to a couple the night before and I wasn´t really up for drinking again but it was still cool, met heaps of people. headed home around 1ish to get up bright and early for the big day. 31st August 2005. Got up ... read more

Well now that I have a stunning set of permanent sunglasses attached to my face there will be no pics of me for awhile! After my wonderful time of the beach, shopping in the markets off Las Ramblas and generally watching the world pass me by in Barcelona I decided that a day on a mountain with monks was in order...so Montserrat here I come. Well in the middle of NO where there is a magical mountain that houses the art work of the likes of Monet, Picasso and Renoir to name but a few. It also has the most amazing cathedral with the shire to the Black Virgin and a very friendly kitty cat. For those of you who know how much of a bad mother I am for having left my little Mickey with ... read more

After an 11 hour flight from Bangkok and a 13 hour lay over in Heathrow airport (which i must say is the worst airport for layovers of that magnitude!.. no bench seats that i could find apart from gate 1 terminal 2, and no showers to be heard of!!! ) I landed in Valencia with my one lucky US dollar .... and it paid off today!.. after realising that no other country other than Thailand likes or exchanges Thai Baht and the ATMS not working in the airport.... and looking stupid to the lady behind the currency exchange counter when i asked if she could change 1 US dollar, she was nice enough to do.. for 1 Euro.. just enough for me to get out of the airport and into town by bus! phheeeww! Once settled ... read more

In August 2005, Megan and I decided that a girls trip to La Tomatina, the Tomato Throwing Festival in Spain, would be just what we needed. We booked through a tour company to avoid all the hassles and Megan arrived the day before and I arrived that night. By the time I got there, admittedly around 11pm, Megan was trashed. On the plus side, she'd made friends with just about everyone on our tour! The next day we woke around 7am to ready for the train at 8am. We were staying in Valencia, but the festival is in the tiny town of Bunol, about an hour away by train. When we arrived at this tiny town we weren't quite sure how or where they were going to have a festival that involved 30,000 people. But the ... read more
