It is true that Mallorca is known worldwide as a summer destination, but the fans of active holidays know that it has some of the best hiking routes in Europe
Mallorca’s interior is a wilderness that is discovered by hikers and ramblers that come to the island when the major part of tourists is gone. For many years, the largest of the Balearic Islands has been considered as a summer destination by vacationers from all over Europe that go there to get a bronzed body. But recently, the number of those that come when the summer season is over has increased.
When hikers arrive in Palma for the first time they’re spoilt of choice, as there are numerous trails and routes all over the island. The trip to every hiking destinations seems to begin from the capital city of Palma. There are hundreds of hiking trails in the island that run in mountainous terrain, in the coast, the countryside and along the beaches.

The local government is paying special attention to out-of-season tourism in Mallorca as it considers it one as a solution to the highest number of tourists that flock in the island during summer. Even though the number of avid hikers and ramblers that choose Mallorca for their hiking adventures has increased, this cannot be noticed while walking around. The trails are calm and they seem like endless. They vary in length and difficulty levels. Some of them are family-friendly while others are for moderately skilled hikers.
The most important things that you should know about hiking in Mallorca is the best season for walking activities which begins in September and runs until May or June, depending on the temperatures. Those who are searching for more adventurous trails must go the Tramuntana Mountains.
Soller is located in the heart of the mountains and it can be easily reached by train from Palma. There are over 22 hiking routes in Soller that go up in the mountain or along the coast of the sea. Although the highest peak in the island, Puig Major is not accessible by the public because it is a military area, there are many other peaks for those that want to climb the summits of Mallorca.
