Hello all,
I have moved through so many towns and now cities that the names are blurring and at times the experince feels unreal, I am now starting to wake up and not having to orient my self. So far the experinces have been all they describe in the books and more. We have begun to try to avoid the big centers becuase the small towns have most of what we need and are not as crowded. The locals are just that so friendly everyone says Bien Camino to you as you pass by or some other greeting.
The trails vary between rocky paths that are only a couple of meters wide or to full roads that a tractor could easily drive down and they do collecting grapes from all the vineyards we move through. I have helped my self to the odd grape or two and they are delicious a great pick me up. We head out about 7.30 and it is just starting to be daylight and have managed a fair number of 27 kilo days. Both of us have head colds so only did 22 today and am staying in a beautiful hostel, 8 euros a night. We are going to cook an omlette. Most night we can easily dine at a resturant that serves a pilgrims meal, three courses for about 10 euros and not bad food they are a bit to fond of french fries but they still taste good.
Some of the churches and the buildings are unreal it is like walking through a living mueseum. We visited the church of the black virgin and i was blown away it was as elaborate as the vatican in ways . I was thrilled to see some very old manuscripts from medival times open and just on display.
This is a really great experince so far and only one small blister but is well taken care of. Some peoples feet look awful but they stagger on in a steady procession - odd but a comforting vission ahead and behind. We meet a woman from Vancouver last night who was about to take off on her first day i know she will do just fine. Well that is enough for today.
PS we were too early for the free wine. Anne
