Day 22. 10
thFeb (Monday)
First my apologies for late posting. Just gone to bar and got wi-fi via Mikes phone so will try to upload photo's etc....
Today we got a bus to a beach in the East of Malaga. Nice little bays built into the coastline by our friend Franco to entice the British workers out here (poor old Blackpool & Redcar!). A good washing area to rinse the salt off at each bay. John got stripped off and was in there - warm near the shore but chilly further out. I sat with Cath & Mike watching him cavorting about until I became too hot and went to a nearby Cafe for a drink in the shade. After a while & a half lager, they all came to me but John & Cath went off to the bus station to meet John’s sister Kathleen & her friend Patsy who were flying in from Leeds.
Mike & me had another drink and then got the bus back to the centre and then walked back to the flat where all the others were waiting. Good to see Kathleen again as we haven’t met for a few years, and
Patsy was a nice calm person. After a while they all went out but me (I can only manage those 4 floors of stairs once a day, with my chest & then need a good rest at floor 2). So I said goodbye to all except Mike and after an hour he came back and we grabbed our bags and headed for the coach station.
We had eggs & chips at a nearby cafe (Mike had omelet and I had Tortilla with chips (so I had spuds with spuds which made the waiter laugh – I gave a third to Mike). We enjoyed it so much that we nearly missed our 7pm coach, but caught it safely although so lately that we had to take separate seats. Me avoiding a large Spanish lady talking very loudly on her mobile, and choosing instead a thin Spanish lady listening to her headphones (I have to choose thin fellow passengers due to my enormous size). I was wheezing and gasping from the exertion of getting on the coach, so I took a few blasts on my inhaler and the lady asked if I needed any help and told me to ask if
I ever did. A very kind young lady.
I listened to a Pilgrim Radio 4 play (a brilliant Sebastian Montriavich{?} epic) very good, very strange. Then I managed to knock over my bottle of water and my mp3 player as the coach took a sharp turn and my lady friend managed to retrieve them for me. Then I listened to a particularly funny “I’m sorry I haven’t a clue” nearly bursting out laughing at places.
We arrived at around 9pm and I made a point of thanking the young lady for all her help.
We got almost straight onto a tram and then stood for half an hour and 10 stations. It seems that there is a 9pm rush hour relating to siestas being taken. When we eventually got off the tram we were at the edge of a large retail park with all the megastores illuminated by white neon beneath the massive roofs, now all seemed closed except a KFC, high up in the top left corner of a huge glass building, which had bright red and green neon lights on the handrails of long escaltors.
We waited and waited at a bus stop that
looked very like an advertising board but Mike assured me that it was a bus stop. After 20 mins a few other people arrived, but they got on another bus to ours! Another 20 mins and a few other folk arrived and so did our bus, hurrah. Had been standing for around 1.5 hours now! I gladly sat on the soft seat for the 20 min journey. Arriving around 11pm.
Then we walked for 5mins to Mike’s place. Which, although needing some work, is quite habitable. We talked until 1am and then crashed out.
