I can't believe this is my second week here. Time sure is flying by. On the other hand it also feels like I've been here forever. Things are going well. This week has been pretty normal with nothing too exciting happening except for the strike yesterday!! There was a rumor that there was going to be a strike at the school and class would be canceled. I secretly didn't think this dream would ever come true but it did!! We got to school yesterday and it was deserted. All the buildings were locked so we met our teachers at the USAC office. I guess there is some new law that is cutting the wages of public workers so they were protesting. We went to a cafeteria on campus with our teachers and we got a free ... read more

I can't believe I've been here a whole week already. It really is flying by. I was able to do a lot of stuff this weekend and it was a lot of fun. Friday night was my first night out here. A group of us went to Soho a really cute outdoor bar. I got some Sangria a really popular spanish drink. it was good. Afterwards we went to a tapa's place called Lizarrans. In spain they eat really small dinners so tapas are like appetizers. At this place you can either sit at a table or the bar. At the bar they have a huge variety of these tapas that you can grab. Waiters also walk around with them. You just pick the ones you want and each one has a toothpick. There are three ... read more

First week of school So far I have been loving my classes!! It was a bit hard to get back into the school mode after being off for only a month but its not so bad. The University of Alicante is absolutely gorgeous. It is fairly large...around 30,000 students. Quite a bit larger than my little Tech. It was hard to find my way at first but I got it down now. It is so green with beautiful trees and flowers and little fountains all over the place. It used to be a military base until 30 years ago when they stopped using it. All the buildings are very short and painted white. It gets pretty hot just baking in the sun during my walks between classes but i love it. I am taking three classes ... read more

My Home Hello all. So we arrived in Alicante this past Sunday after taking a bus from Madrid. It took about four hours and when we got here we were met by our host families. Students in the program have the option of staying with a host family or in an apartment. I am living in a house with another girl in the USAC program, Lisa. She is so cute and we get along really well. We were really nervous to meet our mom but she gretted us with kisses on the cheek. She doesn't speak any english so everything she says to us is in Spanish. She speaks slowly and clearly and it is pretty easy for me to understand her. She is 57 years old, has big curly hair and seems very artsy/eccentric. We ... read more

A beautiful city!! Alicante is one of the prettiest cities i've ever seen. It is fairly large, around 300,00, but feels small because the center is so compact. It feels very beachy with light colored buildings, palm trees and the hot sun. It is very clean and feels less metropolitan than Madrid. The lifestyle here is very relaxed and I love it! My house is located in central downtown with the main shopping center a few streets away and the beach a ten minute walk. The beach is unbeleivable. It is a bit crowded at times because Alicante is a tourist destination but it is absolutely gorgeous. You can see the mountains in the background and the water is so clear and blue. I have gone everyday i have been here. I'm being careful not to ... read more
