I moved on to Gijon, another seaside town although smaller than San Sebastian. There's a beautiful park here which was formerly a fort - if you walk along the beach you won't miss it. The views are fantastic from here, and there's sculpture is pretty amazing - and huge!!! Met some crazy 21-year-old Spanish girls whom I partied with and who made me some ´calimocho´ (wine connoisseurs look away NOW) - it´s a mixture of red wine and (shock horror) COCA-COLA. I imagine only a Uni student could think that up. After Gijon, I can honestly say I am waaaay past being 21.... read more

Well....Its official! We're engaged!!! I will give the full update later with pictures, but this weekend we went 3 hours to the west to Asturias, and Jesus proposed to me over a glass of wine, on a virgin beach (with the softest sand I have ever felt) at sunset ! What more could ya ask for?! I'm not sure I actually said yes, just nodded profusely amidst tears... he assures me I said yes, and i can't change my mind now! haha In case you didn't know, Jesus and I met when I went on my 4 month European extravaganza. He is from Spain/Basque Country, hence why I live here now. It was love at first sight and the rest is history!!! OK....exactly 16 days and 5 hours until we arrive in San HO! I expect ... read more

Well, we made it to Oviedo yesterday by way of a SEAT LEON...a rental car. Yeah we decided to give the rental car option a whirl and forthe most part it was great...We took a coastal route from San Sebastian to Oviedo driving on roads where we had the mountains of Picosde Europa (one of Europe´sbiggest national Parks) on oneside and the Cantabrian Sea on the other. We stopped in Guernica, the site of massive German Bombings in 1937and got to see the famous Picasso painting and the Museum de la PAZ. We drove through Bilbao and into a small town called Columbres where we played soccer in the countryside with a couple of young boys who pretended to be players from REal Madrid, their favorite futbol team. We pulled into Oviedo around 9 pm and ... read more

Yesterday we were on our way out of San Sebastían, our mode out...by a rental car. We got this crazy idea from the Isralei´s we met...they were doing it, so why not us? We only were going to have it for tomorrow and get ourselves to Oviedo...and we were so close, so close to doing it smoothly and easily... I was the driver...since I am the only one blessed with the gift of driving a standard car in our group. So the little red Leon, compact european car was all mine. It was really fun to drive actually and the area we were leaving from and going to was beautiful. We went to Gernika...the small town that Picasso painted his infamous Guernica painting about...it was bombed by German planes right before WWII during the Spanish Civil ... read more

I thought I was sleeping until 10, but Diego came to take me away at 9:50! I thought Andrea was joking when she said he was outside already. I felt bad making him wait, but I had to brush my teeth or something! He shoulda told me he wanted to meet up earlier! So we got in the car. Diego driving…I was a little scared, but he is actually a really good driver. I was impressed. He drove me around and showed me some new places and we just got to talk. I miss talking to him. He’s so busy I never get a chance to just find out what’s going on and how he’s doing. So it was nice just chillin with him. We always have a good time together. Diego had practice, so Rubo ... read more

Andrea and I woke up at 11 and ate breakfast. I had freshly squeezed orange juice. Lovely! Then I took a shower, went on the computer, and did homework. I felt kind of awkward in her house because I never knew where to go or what to do. We couldn’t watch t.v. because her grandfather was in there, so I just pretended I had a lot to do. We chilled until it was time for lunch. I’m not sure exactly what I had, but I’m not complaining. It was good. Her parents are so sweet and her sister is really cool too. I enjoyed eating with them. I just wish I had more to say! At least I could understand them. Oh yeah, and we celebrated her birthday. Her parents made her leave the kitchen and ... read more

Oh…today was kind of a long day. We actually went inside the Prado today. I learned about Ribera, Valezques, and Zabana. I appreciate art so much more. No regrets about taking this class. After Art I was on a mission to get a present for Andrea. I had NO idea what to get her. I realized that I don’t know what music she like, what she reads, or what activities she enjoys. What kind of friend am I? Yikes! So after an hour of looking, I just got her a shirt, a belt, eye shadow, a ring, and earrings, all to match. She’s too cool for me and probably won’t wear them all together, but it’s always an option. I got home, painted the little toes, took a shower, packed, and of course, ate lunch! I ... read more
