June 27 - O'Cebreiro to Triacastela
I was half right about the girls next door - they partied but only until about midnight. After that I slept well and woke up at 7am.
I organized my backpack and headed down to the bar for a cafe con leche grande.
Today's stage (wow I am now walking complete stages) is only 21.3km (and I am saying only) and mostly downhill - great views in all directions. It is cold and damp and I am now wearing my fleece until I warm up. I am happy I did not send it back with Tanya - the Atlantic winds are chilly. The mist plays games with my mind - the mountain tops appear to be floating.
The descent is tough as always on my feet but manageable. I stop in a small farm town and have a huge fresh made tortilla (egg and potato pie) and another cafe con leche grande with a young kid from Hawaii. Note : always eat lunch on street patio tables for breakfast and lunch - very European / very civilized.
As we are
eating a farmer is herding his cattle from his barn to a grazing field. As they walk in front of us a few start coming on our side and actually start hitting the patio furniture. The farmer starts screaming at them and the Hawaiian kid and I have no problem following suit. The cows do not listen and start straight for us now - the women / chef of the bar came running out waving her arms and shoving them back to their side of the road. They listened to her no problem. Don't mess with Galician country girls.
The rest of the walk is uneventful and I arrive in Triacastela ( the three castles long gone ) get a nice room in a hostel, do a washing in the back garden washtub, have a quick meal in the garden with two American women, work on my blog and get another early night. All getting very routine.
Piss off of the day - I walked half the day looking for a bathroom - finally found one and just couldn't logically figure out how to use it - picture attached - my bowels
actually promised me they would work on command from here on in if I didn't try to - I will show them this picture if they do not keep their promise.
Tip of the day - learn how to comfortably crap in the woods before coming on a walk like this - not as easy as it sounds- ask any bear
Blessing of the day - magical paths in the woods - I keep expecting a leprechaun or whisp to appear
Funny event of the day - how many of you have been attacked by cows while having your patio brunch - I think they figured out I had started (after over 25 years) eating meat again - part of my commitment to eat what the other pilgrims eat. I think I saw vengeance in their eyes - I am starting to think cows are smarter than they let on. I will keep a close eye on them from here on out.

How does it work!!!!!!!!!!!
Like in Greece, you squat over the hole. That one looks much nicer, not just a hole in the dirt. Common place all over Asia, just be sure to keep your balance while squatting. We are really enjoying your blogs but miss you so very much. Love Carla and Glen
