Madri

Madrid, Spain - My world has started in here...

January 19, 2008

After five months of waiting the big day has arrived. The dream came true. I came to Madrid not only as a single traveler, but as an immigrant. Finally, after much waiting the dream came true and Madrid, that seemed to be so far away, was here at only 20/30 minutes by car untill be able to reach the Hotel El Madroño. The truth is that when getting to the hotel I had no idea about the meaning of its name (the truth is that I had not the slightest idea of anything). Until then had been living 23 years with my parents which means that erything was new for me, country, language (which turned out to be harder to learn than it seems), food, people, nostalgia ...

It's hard to believe that 2 ½ years have passed, and that now I'm completely adapted to the country, language, food, people, nostalgia...

The most important is that Madrid is still like living the dream. There is always something new to be discovered, there is always something new to learn. An example of that is that "madroño" (in Portuguese, madronheiro) is a tree native of the Mediterranean region, and is stamped on the shield of the city of Madrid.

Life isn't made only of good moments, but I'm sure that I've had many of them in the last two and half years and that my life will never be the same after this wonderful experience.

Best moments: Watching a Real Madrid footbal match at the Bernabeu, visiting the Royal Palace and walking through Retiro Park.
