Bona Tarda!

Looking back in my posts I realized that I haven't yet taken you through an "average" day here for me in Barcelona! I wanna walk you through the apartment I live in and this weekend's festivities!

The apartment is about 20 minutes walk from our University off a main road in Barcelona called "Gran Via de les Corts", most of the streets here are in Catalan and not Casillian Spanish. Right down the street from us we have the Arena's Mall, Montjuic and different shops. Nuria's apartment is actually two seperate ones, with a door in the wall to connect them for more space. Walking in the first rooms you pass are the pantry room with our refrigerator, cereals, fruits and chocolate (yumm!). Next is our bathroom for just us three girls, with a bidet (none of us have tried it haha) and full bath. Surprisingly enough with three girls it is clean and we have no problems with schedules of showers! The next is our first kitchen, which has the microwave, stove and sink. This is more of our "dinner" kitchen and where we do the dishes for Nuria after dinner. Nuria is a piano/music teacher

It looks tiny but Nuria works wonders in here!
and give private lessons in our apartment, so we have a piano in each living room. The main living room has the TV we watch the barca games on and Nuria watches her game shows after dinner! Next to the main dining room (for dinner) is Nuria's rooma and then my room, both with doors to the terrace perfect for tanning on nice days like this weekend! In the "Other apartment" is the lesson room, office with computer (and ancient workout bike!). Our breakfast and lunch dining room, less formal than the main one. and both Jacquelyn's room, Nuria's personal bathroom and Amy's bedroom.

Here in Spain, the week actually begins on Monday, instead of our normal "calendar' Sunday. Monday's are my busiest day but each day is pretty close in schedule. Each morning I wake up around 8:30 or 9 and shower, get ready have some breakfast. Breakfast is a bowl (or two!) or cereal like "Arroz con Chocolate" which is chocolate rice crispies and some O.J. All the milk and juices are in boxes here instead of plastic containers, we recycle in the house and then on the streets there are huge bins with specific recycled materials

Nice and Sunny!
inside picked up everyday. Barcelona is a very well oiled machine that has a crew of street cleaners who begin work around 5 am cleaning up cigarette butts and wrappers, but a lot of people in the city are environmentally conscious and it stays really clean naturally. My Language class starts every day at 1130, and we usually head out of the apartment at 11. Language class switches from "Practica" (conversation and local vocabulary) to "Gramatica" (verb tense, sentence structure). Both of my teachers are young and very good at explaining what we don't understand.

Class alternatively ends at 1 or 2:30, and afterwords I head to the gym. My gym is called "Fronto Colom" and is on the market street called "Las Ramblas" and is about 15 minutes from the beach. The gym is like Artega's becuase it has the machines, classes and pool all included. It isn't a complex though, it is in an aparment looking buliding that has been renovated into a gym and has 5 or 6 floors.

After the gym I either go straight back to class, or head towards the peir to eat lunch by the sea (crazy right?). For lunch Nuria

Love the chandeliers!
makes us a sub sandwich with some kind of meat, cheese, tomato, lettuce, carrot, cucumber oil and a piece of fruit on the side! From my "happy spot", all the sea gulls get to enjoy my leftovers (there's only so much bread a girl can eat!!) and you can see the fish through the water since it's so clear.

Then it's back up to the university, through the crowd of people who stare and take pictures of men dressed like statues who are literally JUST STANDING STILL....on a box...But hey, to each their own! My other two classes this "half" semester is "History of General and Contemporary Spain" and "Women's Writers". They aren't super interesting to me but I'm learning alot just from listening to the teachers speaking. Next half semester I will be taking "History of Modern and Contemporary Spain" and "Latin America: Painting, Art Literature" which sound much appealing! The Language class and my Catalan class I take at the same time all semester. I get done with class alternatively at 7:30 pm or 9pm, which is tough for me since my attention span usually clocks out at 4 (oops!)

Coming back from class we all

have dinner around 9:30pm. Dinner is the biggest meal of the day, all except Sunday's when Lunch is the largest.

This weekend we were finally able to go to the beach!! The beach is about a 15 minute metro ride, or a 40 minute walk from the apartment. You can spot the american student's from a mile away since we are the only ones wearing shorts and bikini's on the beach in 65 degree weather. The rest of the locals and tourists were wearing uggs and sweaters and jeans. By the beach there are a lot of cafe's and restaurants that sell more of the Mediterranean cuisine. On Friday and Saturday we went to the beach and also went to a park that has the view of the whole city Saturday morning.

Since Sunday is kind of our "Family" day we had some good food and hung out around the house! For lunch we had pineapple (in the shape of a swan....) and ham, then chicken and chocolate drizzled fruit for desert! Talk about SPOI-LED.

Thanks for reading!! Have a great week, love and miss you all!
P.S. I finally recieved my Valentine's package and really appreciated
