Another hot and super sunny day and a very long hike. The Meseta seems to go on forever - with very little shade and not always a lot of water. I am so thankful for my hiking buddies for their cheerful banter, singing, chat and overall encouragement - it would be awful without them,
Passed a sign that said 379 km to Santiago - woo hoo! That means roughly 421 km left to Santiago - hard to believe. While I feel really good about the distance travelled so far, it will be a little sad to see the end. Getting up early every morning, having a "European" breakfast with folks from all over the world, cringing as you are putting on your hiking boots and backpack (which feels very heavy some days) and then hitting the road for the next 6 to 8 hours has become a way of life.
While this may seem monotonous at times (and painful), it has really made me appreciate the simpler things in life that we often take for granted - a "good" shower, simple food, ice in your drink and clean clothes. It also makes one realize how little we actually need
The Long and Not-So-Winding Road
Of the Meseta that goes on FOREVER! to function everyday. Most importantly, it has made me realize the importance of bonds between people and how powerful that can be.
I am very thankful to be able to have this experience.
