Went to Segovia on Friday, I´ve been here several times and have always enjoyed it. Segovia´s history starts with the romans conquering the land in the first century and building a military out post here. After the fall of the Roman empire people from northern Europe settled in Segovia until they were conquered by the Arabs sometime in the 7th of 8th century. Segovia then became the capital of Moorish Kingdoms until 1088 when it was conquered by Alfonso the IV king Castile. Segovia was the was home of the Royal Court and an economic power until the 16th century, then the Royal Court moved to Madrid and Segovia became a secondary city. Segovia has a long rich history like most of Europe and its easy to walk around the old town seeing all the great ... read more

Arrived after a long drive across countryside in Segovia. This rural house is in a small town just outside the town of Segovia. The house is very nice, with a lovely courtyard equipped with tables, lounge chairs and covered porch. The owners are a bit more formal than in Casa Tila in Clavijo, but very nice. We previewed Segovia and discovered an old Alcazar, very old majestic Spanish cathedral, and an aqueduct built during roman times. The aqueduct is simply amazing, as it is so tall, and it was put together WITHOUT mortar. How is it still standing? Why is it that our buildings get demolished after 100 years? We spent our second day in Segovia strolling around the city walls. Since it is built on the ridgeline at the confluence of two small rivers, ... read more

For our first day-trip out of Madrid, we took the picturesque train ride from Madrid to Segovia. As the train approached Segovia, the temperature had dropped from 8C to below 0C and it was snowing in April! So it doesn´t only mainly rain on the plain in Spain, it snows! We were freezing cold and Segovia was tourist-free! Having left Madrid at 8:ooam without breakfast, we headed off to the first open coffee shop at 10:00am! After 4 lattes, 1 orange juice, and 5 croissants between us, we finally could feel our toes and hands again (short-lived)! Although Mama Canuck was not that popular dragging the Travelling Canucks out of warm beds in the dark, taking the metro to the train station, running for the train without breakfast, they soon forgot and forgave her given the ... read more

Spent Sunday in Segovia, yet another World Heritage listed town, about 3 hours from Salamanca. The old town is set up on a hill and is soooo achingly gorgeous - lovely cathedral and an absolutely stunning fairytale Alcazar (castle) which looks exactly like the one from Sleeping Beauty! Spent a very pleasant day seeing the sights, wandering the ancient streets which are very quiet on a Sunday and sipping coffee in the main plaza....here are a few pics!... read more

Proof that my little sister's video viewing habits have affected my adult life: When we were going to Segovia I asked my friend if this was where the Princess in the Princess Diaries reigned. What a nerdo am I (that city is Genovia for all of you that care). Anyway, Segovia is this charming little city with a Castle and many, many "renacamiento" iglesias and a synagouge. Most importantly, this is where suckling pig is supposedly the best in all the world. (okay not all the world, but I cannot speak English at this moment so my typing/writing is coming out very oddly). We saw the castle and I did a LITTLE shopping and then we had the best lunch ever. Well, not ever, actually I didn't really like the pork THAT much because . . ... read more

Trust the Romans to make things big. In Segovia you'd have to be blind to miss the amazing aqueduct over 700 metres long! As usual, everywhere I go I seem to get caught in the rain, was drenched from head to foot here too. Not only was it hard to take pictures, it was terribly hard to walk in soaked jeans! Tried the famous suckling pig (cochinillo) - very yummy. And a host of other dishes whose names I have now forgotten! Only spent half a day here, would have loved to spend more time exploring the city.... read more

It's been a few days because it was the weekend and I've been having fun. We went out to the bars and discotecas here and they are pretty fun. I taught the bartender how to do body shots, obviously, which got us a couple of free rounds. The guys ehre are cute, not as cute as Madrid though. I miss th eboys from teh colegio. I may have met me future husband last night. We met at Toys, then he came with us to a discoteca (I don't remember the name). He told me he had to go back to Toys to fins his friend, and I offered to go with. (Yeah, I know, not smart leaving by myself without telling anyone. Welcome to my life.)
