A solo trip to a nearby pueblo was just what I needed on the last day of my four day weekend. At the Atocha Renfe station, a nice man recommended Avila. I hopped on a train and set off. When I arrived in Avila, I was, at first, disappointed. The pueblo was quiet and lifeless. All of the town, save a cafe or two, was completely vacant. Where were all of the Avilanos? I decided to take a walk near the Muralla, the old wall that fortressed the city in days of old. I was surprised at how closely the villagers live to the historic wall. Just feet away from the wall are casas full of life. Children playing, laundry hanging. Ahead of me I saw a woman walking two perritos. I approached slowly, not knowing ... read more

we begin today with a little story. our story is set in cadiz spain where we are as i write. but first lets go back about a week or so to cinque terre located on what is considered to be the italian rivierra. cinque terre is made up of 5 little towns on the coastline that can be visited by hiking or taking the train between each town. we set out to see all 5 in the morning but after seeing 3 we decided that as beautiful as they were, they did not compare to amalfi coast. i, in true stacey fashion, suggested we take advantage of the sun and beach and lay out for a while. so back to the first town we went and bought two swimsuits and towels. they were actually quite cheap. ... read more

last time we had our one sided chats we were in athens. oh the places we´ve been since then. from athens we took the fairy and headed to cinque terre, the italian rivierra. we ended up traveling for a total of 32 hours straight. literally our bodies were traveling as we just sat there for 32 hours. anyway. cinque terre began with a car ride from the campsite we had booked with just a little outside of town. most of the time we decide which place to stay based on their location rating. this particular place had a rating of 91% and although there was a risk that we might be indeed camping, it was worth the amount of money we´d be saving. we began to wander how it got this rating as we were driven ... read more

Hey guys! This week has been going TONS better than last week and this weekend. It makes a beautiful day that has a lot of positives and uplifting things happen in it seem so much more when you've had some really bad days in a row. I thank God that I am finally out of my rut. It wasn't a fun place to be, but I grew and learned from it. Laura, the director of the Cultural Immersions Project (the Overseas Program at IU), is here visiting us this week. She came to observe me and meet my teacher yesterday. It was SUCH a good day and very very encouraging and uplifting. It was so nice to see Reyes get so excited when Laura said that she wants to send more students to this school that ... read more

Well, this past week has been a rough one. Last week was hard to get back into the swing of things at school after being gone for over a week. I was also still really tired from my trip, so I felt like a zombie every day at school. School is getting kind of frustrating for me because it's the same thing over and over again. They read a text from their book, find vocabulary that they don't know, I tell them the vocabulary words, they translate the text, answer questions, check the questions, and then start over again the next day. My teacher is good at making things fun and joking around with the students, but its hard when I'm not teaching as much like I was in Indiana. I'm just ready to have my ... read more

Hey guys! I hope that everyone is doing well! I am finally back in Spain and somewhat glad to be back to the slower pace of life here. Last week was a fun, but exhausting week. Like I said, Prague in the Czech Republic was a great city. The set up really made it a beautiful city. One of the most interesting things that I did while there was visit a communist museum. The country was communist until 1989. Not too long ago. It was interesting to read about their history (in English) and watch some videos on what life was like when communism was coming to an end. It is crazy how different their lives are from ours. You rarely ever see people being beaten by policemen or cars set on fire by protesters in ... read more

I know that’s a weird title but its true. I want to type something that means something, what ever it means I don’t know but I don’t want it to be meaningless. That’s why I haven’t written much mostly because I haven’t had anything nice to say or interesting. I just wanted to talk about menial 4everyday things, which I thought were useless piece of information. Captured and published taking up another tiny corner of the huge World Wide Web. Then I got to thinking menial everyday things are what life is made of. Life would be very wearisome if everyday was a grand adventure. That’s what I’m doing here I suppose is living. I’m not doing any awesome travelling or back packing across the country. I’m actually only seeing a very small portion of Spain, ... read more

*The links to the pictures from my trip are at the bottom of the page. You'll have to copy and paste!* Happy Easter! I hope that yall are having a great day and really getting to enjoy your time with family, friends, and the Lord. Remember that this is one of the greatest days for us as humans. Because Christ has risen from the dead, he has defeated death, which means we can live with Him eternally and we now have that bridge, Jesus, to reach God. Praise God! :) Today has flown by. I really miss being able to go to church in general, but especially today since it is Easter. Emily and I didn't get back to Avila until about 12:30 pm, so all of the church services were over by then. I REALLY ... read more

NEW PICS! ***http://community.webshots.com/album/548899844FaiZaJ*** (new ones from Avila-look on page 4 and 5?) ***http://community.webshots.com/album/549170167rWZhZS*** (Salamanca!) So, the past 2 days have been amusing as well as very very annoying and frustrating. Yesterday was a good day...it went by very fast. I'm in high school this week in the mornings going around with the English teachers. That has been very interesting. I was with Noemi, one of the English teachers, and she is able to discipline her students well. They respect her better than they respect other teachers and she had them prepare about 30 questions to ask me in English. I enjoyed talking with them. I am able to speak more English and Spanish with them. I've noticed that my Spanish has improved a lot more in the past 2 days from speaking English and then converting ... read more
