The Four Posts with Avila in the background
Hey guys! I thought that I would add in a few more pictures of Avila. There is a place about a 30 minute walk from where I live called the Four Posts. It is on the outside of the walls of Avila (I also live on the outside of the walls, just on the opposite side of the Four Posts). The walls are from the medieval times when most cities had walls built around them in order to protect the people. Avila expanded so slowly after the Medieval times that the walls stayed up, where as in other towns in Spain, the walls were torn down when they were no longer needed in order to expand for more people. You can actually "climb" the walls (take steps up to the top) and walk around. I'm planning on doing that when it is a little less chilly and windy. The Four Posts is a famous landmark in Avila. It is where Santa Teresa, Avila's saint, went to pray. She lived back in the 1500's. It is literally four posts with a stone cross in the middle.

Speaking of Santa Teresa, there is a church here named after her. Within the church

is a little museum that displays some of her possessions such as a sole of one of her sandals, one of her books, and her ring finger. Yes, her ring finger-ring included. It was a pretty disgusting thing to see. It was a brownish-green color, kind of rotted/molded looking, and it had fur on it, and then a ball of fur on the top. Of course there was the pretty elaborate gold ring with a big fat emerald in the center, but its kind of hard to focus on that when its on a 450 year old, hairy finger. Unfortunately, pictures weren't allowed, otherwise I'd share this disgusting site with you guys. My teacher, Reyes, told me that in a town about 45 minutes from here they have some other saint's arm!

I'll write more soon! Have a great week!
