26th April

What a night! Not what I would have meant 40 years ago but the weather...it rained solidly all night & so loud it kept waking us up constantly. An awful nights sleep, but we woke at 7.30am, I made tea & we commented how early people were leaving..until Cathy realised that my fitbit watch was on UK time & we were an hour behind...it was now gone 9am. Ha! No worries, away in between the rain & off east to Noja about 3 hours away along the coastal motorway. The rain hammered down most of the journey, no wonder it’s called the green coast, Costa Verde. The peaks of the Picos de Europa were still covered in snow.

Into Noja, the site we used to use when the children were young, obviously, us reliving our youth. Boy had it changed..except it still had the fountain where the kids, not ours of course, used to throw Fairy Liquid in; we used to call it bubble fountain!

We parked up, made some lunch & Alan Wicker came over in Rupert trousers. He looked like a 5’ 6” Wicker in yellow trousers, we nearly wet ourselves but he seemed a nice chap, being friendly & hadn’t a clue about thin walled die-casting which was a bonus. He made a point about his (large Peugout) van; it had been designed by his partner of 8 years, an arty type, and then made to their spec by some chap in Cornwall who was probably laughing all the way to the bank. Correction, definitely laughing. They were off to the Gughenheim museum (which he mentioned twice) wherever that is (apparently in Bilbao) & then on to look at houses in France. Trying to impress methinks...which is impossible anyway whilst wearing yellow trousers...

We walked into town as there was a break in the weather & Cathy remembered where the supermarket was...how sad is that after 20 years...but it was closed. Walked towards the old town, found another & wandered home & at in the sunshine for an hour or two. Alan walked on by & we had another chat. Had a cracking meal indoors as the temperature had dropped quickly...the forecast for tomorrow being more than troubled....
