Day 7 - Santa Cruz - Tenerife No alarm this morning but we were awake early as we docked alongside a huge cruise ship, after checking with my friend Miss Google the Aida vessel can hold a capacity of over 6,000 passengers! Not for us we prefer our smaller ship. Enjoyed the morning sitting in the sunshine on the Verandah where we also had our snack lunch before joining the afternoon tour to the orchid gardens. A different landscape again as we took a scenic drive through North Tenerife stopping at the Humboldt Viewpoint in Oratava Valley. The viewpoint is named after the explorer and naturist who visited the island in 1799 and also visited the gardens we will be visiting later. Valvoin taas yöllä melkein neljä tuntia. Kun söin leipää, sain lopulta uudestaan unta ja nukuin klo 9 asti. Aamupala syötiin parvekkeella. Eilen pesemäni farkunlahje oli jo melkein kuivunut. Laitoin parvekkeelle kuivumaan myös niitä vaatteita, joita tarvitaan paluulennolla, koska vaatteet tuntuivat hiukan nihkeiltä. Jukka lähti edeltä. Nähtiin baarissa. Otin kahvin ja mehun. Mentiin uimarannalle. Tämä oli matkamme kolmesta rannasta paras aikuisen uida: aallot eivät olleet liian voimakkaita (kuten Playa del Inglesissä), mutta meri syveni nopeasti uintikelpoiseksi (eikä ollut niin matalaa kuin Las Palmasissa). Nukuin aika hyvin. Tällä kertaa myös keitin aamupalalle kananmunia. Käytin ensimmäistä kertaa eläessäni induktioliettä, ohjeet luin jälkikäteen. Nostin pyykit hetkeksi ulos keittiön parvekkeelle, joka oli sisäpihan puolella, lopuksi t-paidat henkareihin ja kuivausteline sisään. Lähdettin päiväretkelle ratikalla La Lagunaan. Reilun kymmenen kilometrin matkalla noustiin 550 metriä ja lämpötila laski muutaman asteen, perillä +14 astetta. Minulla oli pitkähihainen paita, ja repussa myös drymax-takki. Perillä vielä tuli välillä tihkusadetta. Ensin kahvilla päättärin lähellä. Sitten kuuluisa aukio Plaza del Adelantado. Turistineuvonnasta kartta. Käveltiin katsomaan kirkkoa Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción. Pääsylipulla pääsi sekä katsomaan kirkkoa että kiipeämään kirkontorniin. An old tree, old pyramids and two old towns We are now going to write about what we did in the second half of our vacation in Tenerife. When looking through the pictures it seems like we these days just saw a lot of old stuff. But please keep in mind that old can still be interesting and exciting. Friday, April 8, 2022 Santa Cruz de Tenerife We watched as the ship pulled into port in Tenerife. The ship pulled slowly into port and was met by the pilot within the breakwater. We are situated on the starboard side which as it turns out is alongside the port. We had a wonderful view from our veranda, so we spent the entire time of the veranda watching as the ship so elegantly and easily slipped into place. On the dock, we noticed an ambulance as well as a police car. Uh Oh. As the gangway was deployed and assembled, a second gangway, for the crew, was deployed from deck 4. Once the second gangway was completed off rolled a woman in a wheelchair escorted by medical staff, her husband and their combined luggage. She was not, ... read more
