Day 8 - La Gomera One word can describe the landscape of La Gomera ‘DRAMATIC’. After leaving the port and capital San Sebastián we saw breathtaking views as we ascended, taking time for photo opportunities along the way. It was clear enough to see Mount Tiedi Tenerife in the distance. At around 4,000 feet we drove through Garajonay National Park, home to one of the world’s few surviving laurel forests. The area is popular with hikers, some passengers from our ship were taking a trek but for us we were happy to enjoy the surroundings in the coach. The forest was also thick with giant tree heathers and enormous dandelions. We had time to stop at the visitor centre where displays showed how the local people lived and worked years ago. A video showed how the ... read more

07 mars 2019 : La Gomera.

Monday 21st December, 2015. La Gomera While we were enjoying a posh breakfast in the dining room with one of M's bridge buddies we were joined by Alan. He had come to find out whether there were any repercussions to the fact that we had returned yesterday's car minus a hubcap (we don't know whether it was already missing when we picked it up or not). Anyway cut a long story short Alan and Jan decided to join us for another day of car hire and touring. After breakfast the four of us went to the cruise terminal where there were two car hire desks. We took a queue each and M won so we hired a car from the chica at her window. Once in the car we headed out of San Sebastian towards a ... read more

This sailing trip was real chance to test can I cope with rough waters. I am not sure still, but my wish to try again not destroyed yet.. I feel happy I had sailing trip again, because in my wildest dreams I could not imagine I can sail twice in different places and conditions in such short period of time ( September and December). So this one week of sailing from Tenerife to La Gomera was thanks to Skipper Fred, who accepted me, even he threatened not to, because previously, in November, I had one day sailing and got out of the boat as we hit swells about 3 meters, from the storm few days ago. At that time I came on board with another women and we did plan to go for a week, but...she ... read more

We have lived in Tenerife for over three years now and thought it was about time to make a visit to the neighbouring island of La Gomera. Retirement is looking after us well. We chose this day to celebrate two recent important personal occasions. As we know little about the island, we decided to make our first visit on board an organised coach tour. What a great idea that was too. We were picked up from a hotel in Los Cristianos for the short coach ride to the port of Los Cristianos and our Fred Olsen Fastcat Catamaran to the port of San Sebastian, La Gomera leaving at 9.00am. The journey was just fifty minutes. We have been waiting to travel on this boat for almost a decade, so it was a great moving moment for ... read more

The following week was spent the week with Charles, Alison and Elena. It was great to see them, and to spend a bit more time together than the usual visits at home would allow. They also came bearing lots of gifts and bits and pieces from home for which we were hugely thankful! We spent the first night in their apartment – the first off the boat since July, then set sail together on Monday for La Gomera. On leaving the harbour we ran straight into one of the islands acceleration zones giving us strong winds and a choppy sea. This was an unpleasant introduction to the boat for our new crew who were all promptly sick. The weather steadied for the passage to La Gomera, but picked up considerably as we approached the harbour. At ... read more

Our flight to the Canary Islands left from Geneva, Switzerland. It was a beautiful day and the train went so near to Interlaken, that we could hear Lake Brienz calling our names. Spending the afternoon on the Lake seemed so much better than spending the afternoon in Geneva. Early the next morning we were off to the airport and on the flight to Gran Canary, for a one day visit before continuing to the island of La Gomera. From the plane, La Gomera is a mass of rugged ravines, steep cliffs, and endless carved terraces. While it is a small island, only 15 miles across at the widest point, traveling anywhere on the island entails scenic, cliff side, winding roads and getting to your destination takes more time than would be anticipated. But that was never ... read more

A one day trip by ferry to La Gomera which, by the way, I didn't know that in Arabic meant 'small firebrand' (according to Wikipedia Encyclopedia). We took the ferry from Los Cristianos in one October early morning. A small island with narrow streets, nice painted houses, friendly people, calm life... Pitty we hadn't time to explore the whole island. Maybe next time...... read more
