Two hours to kill before the departure of the Algeciras-Cadiz bus. I decide to go for a walk in the harbour area. Loitering in a city’s underworld is always a pleasure. But this time will prove to be a lousy idea. A black car closes me in a alley and two not too friendly fellas come out from the vehicle. They will reveal themselves to be policemen in civil outfits, but at the time I didn’t know it. After identify themselves, they proceed to ask for my documents and press me to deliver all drugs in my possession. I answer that I’m clean and they start the old tale “if you handle it to us all is fine, if we search you and find it you are in big troubles”. Yeah, right. I repeat once again ... read more

Hi Everyone, Have had a good ten days in Gran Canaria, the weather has been really good - sunny most of the time. We are staying at the apartments about ten minutes from Puerto Rico. Nothing much to report really we have just been relaxing by the pool and getting a bit of a sun tan. We did go on the ferry to Puerta de Mogan which is a lovely harbour village. There is a busy harbour with lots of boats and all the houses have flowers in the window boxes, it is very pretty. On the way back on the ferry it was really windy and I lost my sun hat to a big shout of Oh! from everyone on board. Well gutted, it was new so having to make do with my cap for ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! The last stop of our Atlantic cruise was at Gran Canaria, it was a short stop and all of us was pretty worn by now me and my mother with the aftermath of the winter flu and my uncle in the early stage of it and my father from basically just having to watch the rest of us. In Gran Canaria we went to a park which symbolised the continents of the world. It was nice but we were not in form and shape to really enjoy it. I guess this relaxing cruise hasn't really been as relaxing as we had all hoped. We spent the rest of the day just eating, drinking and enjoying the various forms of entertainment available. I went to a stand up comedy with Maurice and an ... read more

Wednesday 17th Day 11: Today I did breakfast but it didn’t matter because even though we could see Las Palmas from 9.00 AM in the morning they kept us waiting for a pilot until nearly 10.00 PM, by which time I’d gone all around the ship taking what photos I thought I may have missed but probably didn’t. Although I am not in a hurry to get off the ship, but after 11 days at sea I’m also looking forward to being ashore, so this is a bit of a contradiction. Consequently, I did some serious pacing, standing on the bridge with my binoculars and making the Captain nervous enough to actually offer me an explanation for why they were making us wait, something to do with ... read more
