Day 2 in Mallorca!
After only a half day yesterday, we had a lot left to finish on our To-Do list before we left the Spanish Islands.
Fish Spa We headed out into the downtown district of Mallorca and while walking around we came across "Fish Spa".
This 'Spa' gets rid of dead skin on your feet and smooths them not by pumice stones or by a traditional pedicure, but literally by having tiny fish eat at your feet...
Sounds so gross... but we had to try it!
So we paid (only 8euro for 15 minutes in the 'spa'😉 and found our spots; right in front of the spa window.
There were hundreds of little fish in every tank and you could tell they knew it was feeding time!
This was the strangest experience I've ever had.
At first it shocked you a little because they swarm all around your feet and you can actually feel them picking off the skin. It doesn't hurt though. They use 'suckers' to peel away the dead skin (not teeth). It was fine but sometimes there would be the one dumb
fish that would go right up the middle of your foot on the bottom, almost asking to be squished as it tickled you!
After a bit you somewhat get used to it, but still a very strange feeling. Especially when one would swim between your toes!
After 15 minutes we took our feet out & washed them.
Surprisingly it actually worked! All of our feet were considerably smoother. I was pretty impressed (I thought forsure there would be no difference).
Maybe I'll have to looking into buying some of the fish for home.. Can you imagine the look on peoples faces when they come into my living room & see me with my feet in a fish tank while watching tv?!
After Fish Spa, we headed to the main cathedral in Mallorca.
Cathedral This cathedral was enormous, especially being situated right near the edge of the hill. From the port, it stands above all the other buildings.
The cathedral is rumored to have many sacred pieces in its belongings, included a piece of the cross. While we didn't see these treasures, we could see the beautiful stained glass art
that was throughout the building. As you moved around the church, the sun would cast different colors into the space around you.
We wandered around for about an hour before it became busy and we had to leave.
After the cathedral we headed back and had a quick nap then a big group of us went out on a catamaran trip!
Catamaran This big boat had both covered & outside seating and had large 'trampoline' nets on the front that opened to the water below! (Naturally thats where we decided to sit)
The boat took us around the southern coast of Mallorca and we got some beautiful shots of the landscape.
It reached a cove that was protected from the larger waves in open water so we could swim while they made lunch. They offered snorkeling gear, but the water wasn't clear enough to really get use out of them.
We jumped off the boat and swam around for a couple hours, meeting a couple guys from the states who are now living in Germany and came to Mallorca for a long weekend trip.
As we ate lunch (delicious bbq),
we talked with our new friends more.
Both ex US Marines, one from Cali and the other from Ohio (yuck, osu fan), they now ship schenooks (helicopters) from the states to countries such as Germany.
We swam a bit more (sorry about the lack of photos, I was swimming and haven't gotten everyone elses just yet) and then headed back to town.
We decided for our last night in Mallorca we would head to the famous 'Tito's'! A nightclub that has been popular since the 70's? haha. It was fun and the music was great, but we had to call it early (the club doesn't open til 1 so anything before 6am is 'early'😉
Tomorrow we have an early morning and a long boat trip back to the Spanish Mainland.
Barcelona here we come!!
