So headed back to the White Isle for the fourth year in a row! Usually go at the end of summer in September but this year thought I'd give the opening parties a go. So glad I did, was such a crazy week with everyone in high spirits for the season to kick off for the summer. I went with one of my best friends from school, Danielle. We both travelled on different flights as she lives in Glasgow and I'm in London. My journey was a bit of a mission with a 6.30am departure from Heathrow (which was an over an hour delayed; usual) to Madrid, I had a couple of hours in Madrid Airport then landed in Ibiza about 1pm. I had a window seat for landing and could see all the island, and flying over Playa D'en Bossa when landing. So excited! We were staying in Bossa as it's walking distance to all the main clubs, got nice beach and just a generally much better area than San Antonio. So I checked in, got my bikini on and headed to the beach myself. Sat there for few hours with the tunes pumping, then table for one for dinner.
Made a little amigo called Jose who kept me company. Then back to hotel and Danielle arrived about 9pm. Sangria time! Got it for two euros from the supermarket. I'd also bought loads of miniatures off the plane so we were well stocked up for the week to sneak wee drinks in with as as it's so expensive to buy drinks out here! The first night we went to Sankeys Opening Party Part One! We stayed pretty much stayed a two minute walk from there which was handy. Was really good night, from what I can remember.... Had stupidly gone on a two week detox before the holiday meaning after literally a couple sangrias I was steaming, as we would say in Glasgow! Lost my camera, which is about my 5th one in a year, so clumsy! Was only a cheaply but was gutted as we had met an absolute character at the beginning of the night called Gino and got a hilarious picture with him. He's from Bulgaria and is a dancer/promoter out here. Turns out he knows some guys that we are friends with from back home. He wears odd shoes, upside down sunglasses, a massive pony tail
and just generally eccentric yet wonderful attire! The guys a legend. Was ok though as we did run into him again and got another classic snap together.
Next day Bora Bora beach. Was cold and raining at first much to our dislike, so had some desperados to cheer us up. Sun eventually joined us. Met a an absolute legend of a guy who was born in the Amazon rainforest, he was 40 years old, now lives in Bournemouth and was with his wife who he had been with for about 20years! What a guy, and couple! Absolutely loving life. We had a little party with them, then I suffered from a delayed hangover and had to go home and sleep for an hour. Woke up, fresh and ready for night nĂºmero dos. Back to Sankeys again for Opening Party Part Two. This night had a much better line up with Steve Lawler and Hot Since 82 (love him). Music was amazing. Met the couple from earlier and one of my friends from work, Maria, was there too which was great. Maria and I in May have been to Singapore, Sydney and Rio together with work then it turned out
we were both in Ibiza this same week. Had such a fun month together and really nice as at work you tend to do a trip with someone then not see them again for about two years! Anyways another great night and we lasted there until about just after half six in the morning.
Next day was spent on the beach again. Much hotter today, yay! Had an earlier start to our festivities this eve as we to the International Music Summit (IMS) about 7pm. This was such a cool event that was held in Ibiza town up at the castle at Daly Vila. Such a stunning setting with views of the town, harbour and could see the sunset. Another great line up and brilliant music - we seen Eats Everything, Seth Troxler and Jamie Jones. This was probably actually our best thing that we went too, just something a bit different. Afterwards we ended up at Sankeys again for some reason, but literally lasted about half an hour then headed back to apartment.
The following day on the Saturday was our 'chill day.' Just sat on beach with few drinks then Maria and her friends joined us
for a bit. They were off to Ushaia opening party. We didn't fancy it, too much money and not that great a line up. We opted for a nice little dinner and relaxing night in preparation for the big one tomorrow - Space Opening Fiesta! A ticket for this cost 65 euros so a rather exciting one! We pre partied at Bora Bora beach, absolutely mobbed on a Sunday. I was back on the two euro sangria cartons from the supermarket. You had to be in Space for 10pm so went over in time. Met Maria again. Started off at the outside area that is usually the car park and caught the end of Deep Dish. Then wandered down to The Sunset Terrace and explored and danced everywhere until about 7am. Think the party didn't end until early afternoon! Crazy, love this place! We just met Maria and her friend, and went back to ours for a little after party!
Starting to feel the effects of it all, as can imagine but this is the last one! DC10 Opening Party - Circoloco! We went and chilled by one of the hotel pools with some peeps that we had met,
then got some lunch. I had my favourite - pan y alioli, and paella! Can't come here without having it! Honestly wish I was Spanish. Was yum! We had a slight drama getting DC10 tickets as everywhere had sold out of tickets and some places were trying to charge 80 euros instead of the original 50 euros! However we met a dude, of course, who had a couple tickets left and sold us them for 50 on the condition that we had a drink in his bar. 'Eh, aye that's a deal pal!' Bar was really nice, just across from Sankeys. The barman was from Argentina and a hoot! Was giving us the free shots, and let me take some posters of Space and Circoloco as I like to decorate my room with all the posters of events I have been too. Really running out of space now though! So back to hotel, quick change and then out we go for our last night! Was amazing line up, one of my faves Shonky was playing. We managed to see him play with his group Apollonia. Love them, seen a couple times now. DC10 is such an amazing club, and for
this night they had an outdoor area which I hadn't seen before and was really good. However it was so busy! Literally couldn't move. It made me and Danielle realise how tiny we actually are! Looked like two little girls trying to get through the crowds. Still didn't stop us having a brilliant night!
So devastated that's the week is over, it just gets better ever year I come here. Although have to admit was definitely ready to go home to recover! Shall perhaps pop back over again this summer, maybe closings again?! Until then - hasta luego Ibiza!
