Hello all!
So after two weeks of settling in we have finally got round to making our blog. It has been a busy couple of weeks and we have finally managed to settle in to our new home for six months.
Our first week was spent rushing around trying to get our lives organised. We arrived in Zaragoza after travelling for almost 12 hours looking like the walking dead but we were excited to finally be here. We got a taxi to the hotel then crawled into our beds for the next 12 hours and were fully ready for our first full day in Zaragoza.
We woke up and got ready to go to the letting agents to look for flats. We walked to along all the small city streets with the most amazing smell of pastries. With my nose like a blood hound and all of our love for food we just had to stop and have some breakfast. So after a breakfast of waffles, coffee, chocolate, tea, biscuits and croissants we weren't exactly on our way to the beach bodies we had all spoken about. Whoops.
We then walked along to the letting agents. Lets
just say this was a challenging experience as we hadn't picked up as much Spanish as we had hoped in uni. However with the help of a an English speaking agent we managed to explain what we needed and arrange three flat viewings for that day. Perfect. The three flats were all quite different- one was dark and prison like, one was nice and perfect location but no beds and bikes hanging off walls(Not so perfect). Then there was one which was spacious, with a balcony, four big bedrooms and great location. So we said yes to the final one after walking around the city for four hours.
The following day we met two Spanish buddies (Sandra and Silvia) who helped us finalise our contract and translate all our needs. with the landlord. They have been so helpful with everything - they have helped us set up wifi, a Spanish bank account, taking us to uni, introducing us to their friends and they are in the middle of exams! We would have been lost without them. They showed us around the city on the Wednesday and showed where the local bars and clubs were and showed us a nice
restaurant to have lunch in.
The next two days were us moving into the flat, Laura Mitchell managed to get the double room with en-suite. Lucky. The flat had most of the things we needed but we needed some duvets and bits and bobs to make it more homely which meant a trip to IKEA on the Friday. Lets just say I have never seen Nadine so excited to see duvets and sofas. I think it is what she imagines heaven is like. It was a great day in an amazing shopping centre and we left looking like a bunch of crazy bag ladies. Alhtough we managed to get the bus to the shopping centre (Go us!) I don't think the bus driver would have let us on the bus back so it was a taxi home and glass of vino. Much deserved.
This past week we have managed to settle in to the area, lots of nice parks around us, supermarket round the corner, 15 minutes from uni, have visited the cathedral and looked like proper tourist. We managed to set up wifi in the flat so we are back in the real world. It was a
struggle with no internet for a week and I think the local shopping centre was beginning to figure out why we were sitting on their sofas and not shopping every afternoon just sitting on our phones and skyping.
Our buddies have also helped us get enrolled in the Erasmus unit and we have some meetings next week to meet other students! They have also taking us to a lovely little tapas place right next to the uni with dishes ranging from 90 cent to 1.30 Euro. So Cheap! We have also had our first night out in Zaragoza which again involved lots of wine, dancing and walking. We managed to go to about three different nightclubs and I thought my feet were away to disconnect from my body. They were so sore! However not as sore as Laura McColls as her feet have literally just giving up on her. I don't think any of us have ever walked so much.
So it is the first day of uni tomorrow and all very exciting however we are still waiting to get our timetable too. Still all a bit all over the place but we will get there!
Big
hugs to all friends and family and try and keep this updated 😊
