I arrived from Cadiz around 1330 on Thursday afternoon and decided to get out amongst the town right away. The heat was impressive, it was nearly 100F when I arrived, hot hot hot!! I grabbed a map after getting settled into my room, which was nice and air conditioned, and headed out onto the city. I wasn’t really sure exactly where I was going or what I was going to do so I just started walking, vaguely consulting the map. I saw some cool churches as well as the corrida, where they have the bullfights. I walked a little more and saw the famous grand cathedral as well as the Plaza Espana which was pretty impressive. I got a few gifts in a couple random shops and about two hours after I set out on my journey I was back at the hostel and decided to take a nap. I woke up around 1900 or so and went up to the roof terrace to have a beer and a smoke. I met a guy from Quebec named Matthew and he and I talked for a while about our travels, he has been to Asia on this trip and ended up here
in Spain sort of for the last leg of his trip. He and I had a few beers at the bar in the hostel and then decided to go get some food and some more beers somewhere out in the city. We walked a ways and found a place that wasn’t too far away and had some tapas and some more beer. I was feeling fairly drunk because I didn’t eat all that much and only had a sandwich earlier that day. We left the place we were eating at and headed to another bar that had liters of Caiparina and Mojitos so we had a couple of those and decided it would be a good idea to head back to the hostel. We walked back to the hostel and were having a smoke outside just about to go in and call it a night and out walks Johannes, a buddy of mine from Germany that I saw met in Granada, saw in Cadiz and now saw him here! It was pretty random but very cool to meet up again. So needless to say I didn’t go to bed, we all went out to some club like bars that were
about a twenty minute walk away. It was ok, there weren’t all that many people out and the people that were at the bar were dudes. We still had fun though; it was us three guys and two Dutch girls we met at the hostel. The one girl had a piercing in her chest! I had to take a picture I have never seen anything like it and frankly still can’t figure out how she got it done or how they actually did it. She tried to explain it to me but I was drunk and wasn’t really listening. I ended up getting a late night hamburger and headed back to the hostel at around 6am it was a pretty drunken night but fun. This morning Johannes and I went to explore a little bit around the city. We went to the Palacio de Alcazar, which is a wonderful place that was built hundreds of years ago but still has the luster like it was built yesterday. It has some seriously huge gardens adjacent to it surrounded by a huge wall and lush bushes and trees. Inside the palace itself there were Arabic baths as well as tons of mosaic
work that just blew my mind. Johannes said it was cooler than La Alhambra so that made me feel good considering I didn’t actually get to go into the Alhambra due to some boozing. We had some lunch and came back to the hostel, I slept for a while, had a shower which was the first in a couple days and now I am writing this enjoying a coca cola classic. Not sure what I am up to tonight, may have a couple drinks since it’s my last night here but I have to be at the airport tomorrow morning at 5am to head to Holland! It will be great to see my friends from South America again. I will update when I can! Take care all.
