Last night we impulsively messaged a couple wineries to see if we could schedule a visit, and we were pleasantly surprised to see this morning a response from one saying we could do a tour and tasting today! Our tour was at 2:15 pm, so we started our morning with a trip to another white village, Setenil de las Bodegas, a town in which numerous businesses/houses/etc are literally built into rock formations. We walked around the town and were able to find a place for brunch at a cafe built into the rocks. With the owner not speaking English and the menu being entirely in Spanish, we successfully ordered our meal in Spanish! This was quite the accomplishment, because there were a lot of words on the menu we did not know the definition of in ... read more

Every time we have the slight opportunity to sleep in, we somehow manage to miss our alarms! Today we slept until about 9:30 am, and went to grab breakfast in Granada. We enjoyed some empanadas and a croque-monsier (traditional French sandwich) before going to try to find some churros y chocolate. Churros & chocolate is a traditional Granada dish that is deep fried churros with hot chocolate on the side to dip the churros in. For breakfast, we definitely weren't quite in the mood, but it was worth trying and pretty good! Typically people enjoy this after a long night of partying at the clubs, but both of us would prefer something else as post drinking/partying food. Cody would want something more savory fried (i.e. burgers and fast food), I'd want ice cream or some other ... read more

Hike where people have died, arena where bulls have died, ancient burial sites and a cathedral where there is a dead explorer When I read through this blog entry I notice that a lot of it is about death in one way or another. That was not intentional. Even though death seems to be a theme I still don't think it is neither depressing nor dark. Well, you can read it and judge for yourself. I will begin this blog entry by telling you about my two big disappointments on this trip namely Alhambra in Granada and Caminito del Rey northwest of Málaga. They were disappointments because I didn't get to visit any of them. If you are in Andalucía and wish to visit any of those two places you need to reserve your tickets more ... read more

Well we have moved on !Our last day in Marrakech was a lovely one . We found a government store next to the Medina that had all manner of Moroccan crafts at SET prices . It turns out the prices in the Medinas everywhere are @ 3times the price we found there. We were both tired of the bargaining hassle , although we were fairly good at it .It was a pleasure to look , touch and be able to ask questions without being pressured to buy . Our only regret was that it was the end of their day and we had to leave . We did go into the Medina then And found lunch , took a tuktuk ride to a museum...which was closed and a horse and buggy ride back to the hotel ... read more

By Bella We woke up had breakfast and went for another walk of the property, it is beautiful. It has lots of trees. After that we we went on a drive for 1 hour to Ronda which is an old town in the north of Malaga. It is cut in two and joined by a huge bridge. We went on an adventure under the bridge in the rocks. You walked/kind of climbed across and saw a bridge. It was amazing. Then we had lunch, I had pizza. Then we drove home We went for a Swim with dad and Josia it was really fun. There was a little concert with Flamingo dancing it was really cool but it was also really long so we were all tired half way through. Scroll down to see all the ... read more

Geo: 36.742, -5.16641Today we enjoyed a stunning drive along the Mediterranean coast then up through the countryside to Ronda. Though the road was a bit rough, the scenery was stunning, and the mountains dotted with sparkling white villages. We took full advantage of all the wonderful viewpoints along our way. One pretty hillside town where we stopped to enjoy the view was called Guacin, which had a fabulous view of the Guardiario Valley. Ronda is a charming historical town well known for its 18th century bridge called Puente Nuevo (new bridge) which connects the old Moorish town to the newer city. The bridge took forty years to build and sits 100m above El Tajo Gorge. We walked through the quaint old town before enjoying the amazing views as we crossed Puente Nuevo. We had a coffee in ... read more

We left Granada bright and early (actually not bright as the sun wasn't up yet) to catch the bus and train to Ronda. We opted for the 6:45 am train in order to make the most of our time in Ronda, but unfortunately the weather had other ideas. The south of Spain has been experiencing a drought, so of course it was raining. After catching a taxi to the station so we wouldn't get too wet we caught the bus back to where we had changed from the train on the way to Granada and then transferred to the train which took us all the way to Ronda. There are remains of Neolitic Age settlements around Ronda, including the Cueva de la Pileta caves. Ronda was first settled by the Celts, then Phoenician, then of course ... read more

Geo: 36.742, -5.1664175 km of sustained effort today and my legs know all about it! Three significant climbs - two of which were around 9 km with a gradient of about 7%. But what beautiful riding - along switchback roads through the gorge and the Sierra de Grazelema National Park where I saw lots of magnificent Griffon vultures soaring above the cliffs. Helen was on a mission in the morning (she must have had an extra coffee at breakfast) as she was really strong climbing the hills. Looking good! It was very hard to get back on the bike after a pleasant lunch sitting in the sun in the plaza but it had to be done. The highlight of the afternoon were two spectacular descents - one through cork plantations and one descending down to the ... read more

Geo: 36.742, -5.16641Woke up to a glorious blue sky with little wind. So wrapped up in a number of layers we set off with the first 5 km being a very chilly 6°C. The scenery was really pretty with wildflowers and red poppies covering the hillside. A few consistent and steady climbs took us up towards Sentinel de las Bodegas with views of a couple of pueblo blancos (white villages) in the distance. At Sentinel my legs were still feeling good so I decided to push on and do additional kms and climbing with a loop around Olvera - and cycle a portion of one of the Vuelta Espagna routes. I had a slight disagreement with my Garmin course so ended up doubling back and cycling a few extra kilometres but eventually got back on track. After ... read more
